Okay, let’s talk about that whole glasses thing back around 2012. Seems like ages ago now, right?
How It Started For Me
I remember starting to see them pop up everywhere. You know the ones I mean. Big, thick-rimmed glasses, usually black. Kinda looked like old-school nerd glasses, but suddenly they were cool? Mostly saw younger folks wearing them, maybe college kids or people trying to look artsy or something. At first, I didn’t get it. I wear glasses because I actually can’t see without them, so wearing them as fashion? Weird idea to me.
Getting Curious
But you know how it is. You see something enough times, and you start thinking, “Huh, maybe I should see what that’s about.” It wasn’t like I wanted to be super trendy, but curiosity got the better of me. Plus, some of them didn’t even have real lenses, just clear plastic! Or people who didn’t need glasses would wear frames with no lenses at all. Wild.
So, one day, I was out shopping, just wandering around. Saw a cheap pair in one of those accessory stores. You know the type:
- Super lightweight plastic.
- Probably cost next to nothing to make.
- Came in a bunch of bright colors too, not just black.
- Definitely just for looks, no prescription possible.
Giving It a Try
I figured, what the heck. Grabbed a simple black pair. Cost maybe five bucks. Took them home, put them on, looked in the mirror. Felt kinda silly, honestly. Like I was playing dress-up. Wore them out once or twice, mostly just running quick errands. Nobody really said anything, but I felt a bit self-conscious. It just wasn’t me.
The thing is, wearing glasses when you don’t need ’em felt… odd. My real glasses are part of my face, practically. These fake ones just felt like a prop. They didn’t feel right sitting on my nose, probably because they were so cheap and flimsy.
The Fad Fades (For Me, Anyway)
After a couple of tries, the novelty wore off fast. The cheap plastic frames ended up stuffed in a drawer somewhere. Probably got thrown out eventually. For me, it was a really short-lived experiment. I saw people keep wearing them for a while longer, but like most fads, it eventually died down. People moved on to the next thing.
Looking back, it was just one of those funny little trends. Harmless, mostly. It’s just amusing how things catch on like that. One minute, thick frames are just for function, the next minute, everyone’s wearing them, prescription or not. Fashion’s weird sometimes, isn’t it?
