Okay, so Dublin, right? I was heading there for a week and had absolutely no clue what to pack. The weather seemed all over the place – sun, rain, wind, repeat. So, I started by doing what anyone would do: I hit up Google. Typed in “what to wear in Dublin” and… got a bunch of generic stuff. You know, the usual “layers are key” advice. Helpful, but not super helpful.

Digging Deeper
I spent some time scrolling through travel blogs, trying to find actual people’s experiences. That was a bit better. I started to get a sense of the real deal.
- Waterproof everything. Okay, maybe not everything, but a good waterproof jacket seemed essential. People kept mentioning getting caught in sudden downpours.
- Comfortable shoes. Lots of walking, apparently. Cobblestone streets, too, so no flimsy sandals. I packed my trusty walking boots – they’re not pretty, but they’re like walking on clouds.
- Jeans are your friend. Seems like everyone in Dublin wears jeans. Dark wash seemed to be the go-to, so I threw in a couple of pairs.
- Sweaters and cardigans. For those layers, obviously. I packed a mix of light and heavier ones, figuring I could adjust as needed.
- A scarf. Even if it’s not freezing, a scarf seemed like a good idea for the wind, plus it can dress up an outfit.
Putting it All Together
So, based on my research, I started building my packing list. I went for practical over fashionable. I figured I’d rather be comfortable and dry than look like I stepped out of a magazine. I packed mostly neutral colors – blacks, grays, blues – so I could mix and match everything easily. I also threw in a couple of nicer tops, in case I went somewhere fancy for dinner.
I laid everything out on my bed and started trying on different combinations. This helped me see what worked together and what didn’t. It also helped me avoid overpacking – always a struggle!
In the end my packing list consisted of:
- One waterproof and windproof jacket.
- Two pairs of dark jeans.
- 4 sweaters(2 thin, 2 thick).
- 3 T-shirts for hot weather.
- One pair of my old walking boots.
- One warm scarf for my neck.
- A small umbrella for those fast rain.
The Verdict?
Honestly, it worked out pretty well! I was comfortable, I stayed (mostly) dry, and I didn’t feel totally out of place. I even got a few compliments on my scarf! The biggest win was the waterproof jacket – it definitely saved me a few * the shoes, my old boots get the MVP this time!
