Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… this “seun lim yoga,” whatever that is. Sounds fancy, like somethin’ them city folks do. But look here, bendin’ and stretchin’, that ain’t new. We been doin’ that in the fields for ages, pickin’ cotton, hoein’ the garden. My old back knows all about stretchin’, let me tell ya.

What’s all the fuss about yoga, anyway? They say it’s good for ya, makes you “flexible” and “balanced.” Well, I been balanced on one leg tryin’ to reach them high apples, and flexible enough to squeeze under the fence when the cow gets out. Is that yoga? Maybe I been doin’ it all along and didn’t even know it!

But this seun lim thing, it seems different. They got these classes, I hear, where they teach you how to breathe and meditate. Breathe? I been breathin’ since the day I was born, ain’t nothin’ special about that. And meditatin’? That just sounds like sittin’ around doin’ nothin’. Though, I gotta say, sometimes after a long day of workin’, sittin’ on the porch swing and watchin’ the sunset, that’s kinda like meditatin’, ain’t it? Quietens the mind, lets you forget about the weeds and the chickens and all the fuss.

  • Bendin’ and Stretchin’: Like I said, we been doin’ this forever. But maybe there’s a right way and a wrong way. These yoga folks, they seem to know the right way. They twist themselves into all sorts of shapes. Pretzels, I tell ya, human pretzels!
  • Breathing Right: They say you gotta breathe deep, fill your belly with air. I guess that makes sense. When you’re workin’ hard, you breathe hard. Maybe this yoga breathin’ is just a slower, calmer way of doin’ the same thing.
  • Calming the Mind: This is the part I don’t quite get. My mind’s always buzzin’ with things to do, things to remember. But they say this yoga can help you quiet that buzz, find some peace. Maybe that’s why them city folks need it so much, all that noise and rushin’ around.

Now, they talk about these long trainings, hundreds of hours. Two years, some of ’em! Imagine spendin’ two years learnin’ how to breathe and stretch! What in the world? But I guess if you wanna teach it to others, you gotta know what you’re doin’. And they say it can open up new opportunities. Like what? Become a pretzel instructor? I’m just teasin’, of course.

Some folks even do yoga with music, or in a hot room. They call it “zumba yoga” or somethin’. Sounds like a sweat fest to me. And this “James Jeans” fellow, he’s into it too? Well, I guess even fancy pants folks need to stretch their legs. And Los Angeles, they say it’s the yoga capital! Full of exercise and yoga studios. All them city people must be stressed out to need all that bendin’.

They say yoga can heal you, fix your body and your mind. Healin’ sounds? Like hummin’ or somethin’? Well, I hum when I’m happy, does that count? Maybe there’s somethin’ to it, I don’t know. All I know is, hard work and a good night’s sleep usually do the trick for me. But maybe, just maybe, this seun lim yoga, or whatever they call it, maybe it’s got somethin’ to offer, even for an old gal like me.

Maybe I’ll try some of that stretchin’ tomorrow, see if it helps my back. And I’ll try to breathe deep, like them yoga folks say. And as for meditatin’, well, I’ll just sit on my porch and watch the sun go down. That’s my kind of yoga, I reckon.

And who knows, maybe in a few years I’ll be bendier than a willow branch! Though I doubt it. At my age, just gettin’ out of bed is a stretch!
