Alright, so today I wanna share how I made this cord necklace. Nothing too fancy, just a fun little project I tackled over the weekend.

First off, I gathered my stuff. I grabbed some nylon cord – about 3 feet, just to be safe. Then I needed some scissors, a lighter (for sealing the ends, safety first!), and these cool beads I found at a local craft store. Figured they’d add a bit of character.
Okay, so the very first thing I did was to fold the cord in half. Just a simple fold, making a loop at the top. This loop is gonna be where the ends of the necklace eventually go through, making it adjustable. Got it? Good.
Then, I started making square knots. If you’ve ever done macrame, you’ll be right at home. If not, don’t sweat it. You take the left cord over the two middle cords, then under the right cord. Then, the right cord goes under the two middle cords, and up through the loop you just made on the left. Pull it tight. That’s one square knot. Keep repeating that! I did like, maybe 10-12 knots? Just until it was thick enough for my liking.
Now came the fun part – adding the beads! I just threaded the beads onto the two middle cords, spacing them out a little. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, just play around with it until it looks good to you.
After the beads, I went back to making more square knots. This locks the beads in place and continues the design. I did about the same amount of knots as before the beads.

Alright, almost there! Now for the tricky part – making the adjustable closure. I took the two ends of the cord and slid them through the loop at the top. Then, I made a simple overhand knot on each end. This prevents the cords from sliding out completely.
Finally, I trimmed the ends of the cord, leaving about an inch or so. Used the lighter to carefully melt the ends, sealing them off so they don’t fray. Be super careful with the lighter! Don’t wanna burn yourself.
And that’s it! My cord necklace was done. It’s not perfect, but I like it. It was a cool way to spend an afternoon, and now I’ve got a unique necklace that I made myself.
Tips and Tricks:
- Use different colored cords for a more vibrant look.
- Experiment with different types of beads.
- Don’t be afraid to mess up! It’s just cord, you can always start over.
Hope you give it a try! It’s a pretty chill project.
