Okay, so I had this shirt, right? A comfy old tee that I’d had for ages. It was faded, a little stretched out, but I loved it. The problem? It had a huge coffee stain right on the front that I just couldn’t get out, no matter how many times I washed it. I almost tossed it, but then I thought, “Nah, I can salvage this.”

My DIY Dye Job
First, I gathered my supplies. I grabbed:
- The stained shirt (obviously!)
- A bottle of fabric dye (I picked a dark blue)
- A big plastic tub
- Rubber gloves (didn’t want blue hands!)
- Salt (apparently, this helps the dye stick)
- An old spoon for stirring
Then, I filled the tub with hot water – like, really hot, straight from the tap. I dumped in the whole bottle of dye and a good amount of salt. I stirred it all up until it was completely dissolved. I mean who doesn’t like a good mix?
Next, the scary part. I took a deep breath and submerged the shirt in the dye bath. I used the spoon to make sure every single part of the shirt was soaked. I swished it around, poked at it, basically made sure it was completely covered.
Then came the waiting. The dye instructions said to let it sit for like an hour, so I set a timer and tried to be patient.I kept checking on it, stirring it every now and then to make sure the dye was evenly distributed.
After the hour was up, I put on my gloves again and pulled the shirt out. It was dripping, dark blue, and looked…promising! I rinsed it under cold water until the water ran clear – this took a while, I won’t lie.

Finally, I tossed it in the washing machine by itself (didn’t want to dye anything else!) and ran it through a cold cycle. Then, I hung it up to dry, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best.
And guess what? It worked! The coffee stain was completely gone, and the shirt was a nice, even dark blue. It looked almost new, and definitely way better than before. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. I saved my favorite tee from the trash and gave it a whole new look. Boom!
