Okay, so I saw this “safety pin dress” thing trending and I was like, “I gotta try that!” It looked super cool and edgy, and honestly, I was kinda bored with my wardrobe.

First things first, I gathered my supplies. This was pretty simple:
- A plain black dress (I used an old one I didn’t wear much anymore).
- A TON of safety pins. Like, way more than you think you need. I got a big variety pack with different sizes.
- Some pliers (these ended up being super helpful for closing the pins tightly).
I started by laying the dress flat on my bed. This gave me a good view of what I was working with. Then, I just started pinning! No real plan, just kinda went with the flow. I started along the seams, figuring that would be the easiest place to hide any mistakes.
It was… a process. Seriously, pinning took forever. My fingers started to hurt after a while, and I definitely poked myself a few times. Ouch! The pliers were a lifesaver for getting the pins closed all the way, especially the smaller ones.
Getting Creative (and a Little Frustrated)
Once I had the seams done, I started experimenting. I tried creating some patterns, like zigzags and diagonal lines. Some worked, some… didn’t. It was a lot of trial and error, pinning and unpinning, and adjusting things until I liked how it looked.
I found that spacing the pins evenly was trickier than I thought. It’s easy to get them all bunched up, so I had to keep stepping back and looking at the dress from a distance to make sure it looked okay.
The Final Result
After a few hours (yes, hours!), I was finally done. And you know what? It actually looked pretty awesome! It was definitely edgy and unique, and way more interesting than the plain black dress I started with.
I tried it on, and it felt…surprisingly comfortable. I was worried the pins would poke me, but they didn’t. It was a little heavier than before, obviously, but not too bad.
Overall, I’m super happy with how it turned out. It was a fun little project, and I ended up with a dress that I’m actually excited to wear. If you’re looking for a way to spice up an old dress, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try! Just be prepared for a lot of pinning!
