Back in my day, we dreamed all the time. Dreamed of a good harvest, dreamed of a new dress, dreamed of not havin’ to darn another sock! Maybe them young folks in Hollywood, they dream a little different, but it’s still dreamin’, ain’t it? This movie shows how hard it is to be an artist. They work hard you know? Just like we work in the fields.
And some folks, they carryin’ on ’bout race and such in that movie. Sayin’ it ain’t right, how it’s shown. Well, I ain’t no expert on them things. All I know is, people is people. We all got our troubles, our joys, our heartaches. Maybe that Damien, he just wanted to show a story ’bout two people, fallin’ in and out of love, tryin’ to make their way in the world. It is just a movie, you know? Not real life.
That boy, Damien, he wrote the darn thing and directed it too. Says he liked them old timey musicals when he was in school. Hard to believe, ain’t it? Him sayin’ he hates ’em now.
