Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this idea for a “laundry brand,” and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I started with absolutely nothing, just a vague notion that I wanted to create something… different.

Brainstorming Mayhem
First, I grabbed a giant sheet of paper and just started splattering ideas all over it. Words, doodles, random thoughts – it was a chaotic mess. I wrote down everything that came to mind when I thought about laundry: “clean,” “fresh,” “boring,” “chores,” you know, the usual stuff.
Then I tried to think outside the box. What if laundry wasn’t a chore? What if it was… fun? (Okay, maybe not fun, but at least not dreadful.) What if it smelled amazing? What if the packaging was cool enough to leave out on the counter?
Narrowing it Down
After the brainstorming explosion, I started to see some patterns. I kept coming back to the idea of natural scents and eco-friendly ingredients. I’m no tree-hugger, but I do try to be mindful of what I use, and I figured other people might feel the same way.
So, I focused on that: natural, eco-friendly, and maybe a little bit luxurious. Like, laundry detergent that feels like a treat, not a task.
Experimenting with Scents
This is where things got really interesting (and my apartment started to smell amazing). I ordered a bunch of essential oils – lavender, eucalyptus, lemon, grapefruit – and started mixing them together. Some combinations were… not great. Let’s just say my first attempt at a “forest fresh” scent ended up smelling more like a pine-scented cleaning product gone wrong.

But after a lot of trial and error, I landed on a few blends that I really loved. One is a calming lavender and chamomile mix, perfect for bedtime sheets. Another is a bright and zesty citrus blend that just wakes you up.
The “Brand” Part
I’m still working on the actual “brand” part – the name, the logo, the packaging. It’s tough! I sketched out a few logo ideas, but nothing feels quite right yet. I played around with some fonts online, but I’m no graphic designer, so it’s slow going.
I want the packaging to be simple and clean, maybe glass bottles with minimalist labels. Something that looks good and is also reusable or recyclable. It is still a work in progress.
The Takeaway (So Far)
It’s a lot harder than it looks! Building a brand from scratch is a messy, iterative process. There are a lot of dead ends and “what was I thinking?” moments. But it’s also really exciting to see something take shape, even if it’s still in its very early stages. I learned a lot from every step.
I’ll keep you guys posted on my progress. Wish me luck!
