Okay, so I decided to try and draw Billie Eilish, like, her full body. It sounded easy enough, but let me tell you, it was a journey!

I started by, you know, Googling a bunch of pictures of her. I needed a good reference, something that showed her whole body and had decent lighting. I found a few I liked, mostly from her concerts where she’s wearing those baggy outfits she’s famous for.

Getting Started (and Getting Stuck)

I grabbed my sketchbook and a pencil. I always start with really light lines, just to get the basic shape down. I messed up, like, a million times on the proportions. Her legs are kinda long, and getting the angle of her body right was super tricky. I used to struggle with drawing the body, the hands, the clothes, and everything. Eraser was my best friend that day, I swear.

After, I don’t know, maybe an hour of sketching and erasing, I finally had a basic outline that looked somewhat like Billie. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a start.

The Details (aka the Fun Part…Mostly)

Next up were the details. I focused on her clothes first. Drawing all those folds and wrinkles in her baggy clothes was actually kinda relaxing, surprisingly. I used to do it really * took a while, but it was worth it because it really started to look like her style.

Then came the face. Faces are always the hardest part for me. I wanted to capture her expression, that kind of bored, cool look she has. I redrew her eyes, like, five times, and her mouth was even worse. I kept making her look like she was smiling, which wasn’t the vibe I was going for.

Her hair was surprisingly straightforward. I just focused on the general shape and the way it fell around her face. I tried to add some shading to make it look more realistic, but I’m still learning how to do that properly.

Finishing Up (and Feeling Pretty Good)

Finally, I added some shading to the whole drawing to give it some depth. I’m not great at shading, but I think it made a difference. I tried to make it look like the light was coming from one direction, like in the reference photos.

  • First: Basic outline and proportions (lots of erasing!)
  • Second: Clothing details (folds, wrinkles, etc.)
  • Third: Face and hair (the biggest challenge)
  • Fourth: Shading and finishing touches

And then I drew hands. I used to practice it by searching many pictures.

Overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It’s definitely not perfect, but it looks like Billie Eilish, and that’s what I was going for. It was a good learning experience, and it made me realize how much I enjoy drawing, even when it’s frustrating.
