Okay, so I got really into this whole ’90s Nicole Kidman vibe thing, and I just had to try and recreate some of her iconic looks. It all started with scrolling through, you know, images late at night, and I stumbled upon a photo of her at some premiere – think sleek, minimalist, and that hair. So, I decided, “I’m doing this!”
Digging Through the Archives (aka the Internet)
First, I spent, like, a solid hour just gathering pictures. I created a whole folder on my desktop, just dedicated to ’90s Nicole. We’re talking red carpet appearances, candid shots, movie stills – the works. I focused mainly on the early to mid-90s, before she got super, super famous, because that’s where the real style gold is, in my opinion. The key elements I picked up on were:
- Minimalist Dresses: Lots of slip dresses, simple sheaths, nothing too fussy.
- Bold Colors: She wasn’t afraid of a strong red, a deep green, or even a bright yellow.
- That Hair: Okay, the curly, often reddish, sometimes-a-little-frizzy-but-in-a-good-way hair. That was a must.
- Simple Makeup: Not a lot of heavy contouring or anything. More of a natural, fresh-faced look.
- Delicate Jewelry: Thin necklaces, maybe some small earrings, nothing too flashy.
The Experiment Begins!
Next step: raiding my own closet (and maybe ordering a few things online, don’t judge). I already had a couple of slip dresses that I thought would work. One was a dark green, almost emerald color, which I figured would be perfect. I also found a simple black dress that, with the right accessories, could totally pass for ’90s Nicole.
The hair… that was the tricky part. My hair is naturally straight, so I knew I needed some serious curling action. I dug out my old curling iron – the kind with the clamp, not one of those fancy wands – and went to town. I used smaller sections of hair to get that tighter, more defined curl. It took FOREVER, and my arms were definitely aching by the end, but hey, dedication, right?
Makeup-wise, I kept it super simple. A little foundation, some mascara, a touch of blush, and a red lipstick that wasn’t too bright, more of a muted, brick-red shade. I skipped the eyeliner altogether, because it felt too “modern.”
The Results (and a Few Mishaps)
Okay, so the hair was… a lot. It was definitely bigger than I expected, and maybe a little bit frizzier than Nicole’s ever was. But, honestly, I kind of loved it. It felt very ’90s, very “I woke up like this” (even though I definitely did not wake up like that).
The green dress, paired with a simple silver necklace and some black strappy heels, actually looked pretty good! I felt like I could have been heading to a movie premiere (in my dreams, obviously). The black dress worked well too, especially with a slightly darker lipstick and a pair of delicate gold earrings.
The biggest mishap? I accidentally burned myself with the curling iron. Twice. Small burns, nothing major, but a reminder that recreating iconic looks is not always glamorous.
Overall, it was a fun experiment! It definitely made me appreciate how effortless Nicole Kidman made those ’90s looks seem. And it gave me a new appreciation for my curling iron (and burn cream). I might not be walking any red carpets anytime soon, but I definitely felt a little bit of that ’90s Nicole magic. And who knows, maybe I’ll try another one of her looks soon!
