My son say this is about “B F”. I say, what is “B F”? He say it is friend, but not any friend. It is best friend. I say, oh, okay. I know about best friend.
So, best friend, what is that? It is someone you like. Someone you trust. Like my man, rest his soul, he was my best friend. We did everything together.
How You Know Best Friend?
How you know someone is your best friend? I tell you. You feel it in your bones. You know, like when you know rain is coming.
- They good to you. Always. Even when you are mean.
- They listen. Not just hear, but listen. Like when you talk about your bad knee. They don’t say “uh huh”, they ask “how it feel today, Ma?”.
- They there. When you need them. They there. Like when my man died, my best friend, she come right over. Didn’t even call. She just knew.
- You can tell them anything. Anything! And they don’t tell nobody. Secrets safe, like in a locked box. My friend got her secrets, I don’t say. She got mine, she don’t say.
You want best friend? You be best friend. It is not hard. You be good to people. You listen. You be there for them. It is like planting seeds. You plant good seeds, you get good things.
My son also say this “B F” can be for money things. Like how you keep your money safe. I don’t know much ’bout that, but I know you gotta be careful with money. Some people, they try to trick you. They want your money. You be careful who you trust with your money.
Best Friend and Money, Be Smart!
He say something about “B” and “F” and money. Like keep track of your money. “Book keeping” he say. I keep my money in a jar under the bed. That’s my book keeping. But young folks, they do different. They put money in bank. They write it all down. I guess that is okay too.
He say something ’bout “Bitcoin”. What is that? Some new kind of money? I don’t know. Sounds tricky to me. I stick to my dollars. I can hold a dollar. I can see a dollar. This “Bitcoin”, where is it? In the air? I don’t trust things I can’t see.
He say this “B F” thing can be about starting a business. A what? A bed and breakfast? People come to your house and sleep? And you feed them? I don’t know about that. Sounds like a lot of work. I guess some people like that. Not me. I like my peace and quiet.
- If you want start bed and breakfast. You be nice to people, that how.
- You feed them good. No one like bad food.
- You keep it clean. No one want sleep in a dirty place.
- You make them feel at home. People like that.
But I see young folk do different. If you want a best friend for money, I think you gotta know numbers. Like them fractions. Half and quarter. My son, he good with numbers. I never was. But I can count my chickens. And I know how many eggs I got. That is all I need to know. But for this business thing, maybe you need know more. My son say there are “insurance” and “contracts”. I don’t know nothing about that. That sound like lawyer talk. If you need know that stuff, best to ask someone who know, not old me. I just know how to make a good pie.
Don’t matter if it’s people friend or money friend. You gotta be smart. You gotta be careful. You gotta know who to trust. It is all the same, really. Be good, be smart, be careful. That is what I say.
This whole “B F” thing, it just mean be good friend. To people, to your money, to your business, whatever. Just be good. That is all there is to it. You be good, good things happen. That is what my mama always said. And she was right.
You Find Good One, You Keep Them
When you find a good best friend, you hold on tight. Like a good pair of shoes. You don’t let them go. They are hard to find. When you have best friend, life is better, I tell ya. Life is better.
