I thought, “This is the guy! He’s my Harvey.” So, I started building the character around him, this smart, smooth-talking lawyer with a knack for winning.
Then, I read somewhere that this other actor, Patrick J. Adams, was gonna be in it too. I figured, “Alright, let’s give him a role, make him like a young, brilliant guy, maybe a bit of a troublemaker, who gets mixed up in Harvey’s world.” I named him Mike Ross. Seemed to fit.
Next, I needed more people to fill out this world. I added a few more names to the mix, like Rick Hoffman, Meghan Markle, and Gina Torres. They sounded like a solid cast, right? I started imagining them all interacting, the drama, the tension, the witty banter. It was all coming together in my head.
I even started thinking about the title again. “A Legal Mind” was cool, but maybe it needed something more, I don’t know, catchy? I played around with some other names. And then, bam! “Suits” hit me. It was perfect! Short, punchy, and it fit the whole lawyer theme.
I did some digging, found out that the show was gonna be on the USA Network. I mean, that was cool and all. I started picturing the episodes, the courtroom scenes, the office politics. It was like I was watching the show already, even though it was just in my head.
I also came across other shows, like “Whodunnit?” and “White Collar,” and I realized that my show was in good company. Also, I think the crime TV show is kind of a good one, and “Criminal Minds” really got me.
