Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with eighties fashion lately, and I decided I had to try and find the perfect eighties-style dress. I’m talking big shoulders, bright colors, maybe some ruffles – the whole shebang. It was a journey, let me tell you!

The Hunt Begins
First, I scoured the internet. I spent hours browsing, looking at pictures of vintage dresses, trying to get a feel for what I really wanted. I realized pretty quickly that there’s a HUGE range of eighties styles, so I needed to narrow it down.
- Did I want something super formal, like a prom dress?
- Or something more casual, like a day dress?
- What about the color? Neon? Pastel? Geometric patterns?
It was overwhelming at first! I eventually settled on wanting something that was bold, colorful, and definitely had some kind of statement shoulder.
Thrifting Adventures
After doing my online research, I figured my best bet for finding a real eighties dress was to hit up some thrift stores. So, I grabbed my best friend, and we made a day of it. We went to like, five different thrift shops in our city.
We dug through racks and racks of clothes. Some of them were… interesting, to say the least. We found some truly hideous stuff, but also a few contenders. I tried on a bunch of dresses, some of which were hilariously oversized, some that were just plain weird. It was a lot of fun, even if it was also kind of exhausting.
Success (Finally!)
Finally, at the very last store, I found it! A bright teal dress with huge shoulder pads and a fitted * was glorious.

I tried the dress on, I immediately felt like I was stepping back in time. It was exactly the vibe I was going for, and I couldn’t stop smiling.
The best part? It was only $15! I felt like I’d won the lottery. I bought it immediately, obviously.
Styling It Up
Back home, I started playing around with styling the dress. I paired it with some chunky white sneakers. I added a wide belt to cinch in the waist even more, and threw on some big, colorful earrings.
I have to say, I felt amazing. It was so much fun to wear something so different from my usual style. I definitely plan on wearing it out to a party or maybe even just a fun night out with friends. Mission accomplished!
