Okay, so I’ve been seeing animal prints everywhere lately – on clothes, bags, even phone cases! I thought it might be fun to try and incorporate some into my own stuff, you know, give things a little bit of a wild touch. So, I decided to start with something simple: customizing some plain white tote bags.

Getting Started
First, I gathered my materials. I needed:
- Plain white tote bags (I got a pack of three from a craft store – super cheap!)
- Fabric paint in various colors (black, brown, maybe a little gold for some extra flair)
- Paintbrushes (different sizes for different details)
- Some stencils (I found some leopard and zebra print stencils online and printed them out)
- Cardboard (to put inside the bag so the paint doesn’t bleed through)
- Masking tape
The Messy Part
Next, I prepared my workspace. I laid down some old newspapers to protect my table (because let’s be honest, I’m a messy painter). Then, I slipped a piece of cardboard inside each tote bag. This is important, trust me, you don’t want the paint seeping through to the other side!
I taped down my stencils onto the bag, making sure they were secure. For the leopard print, I used a the biggest stencil and taped the edges. Then, I started painting. I found dabbing the paint with brush onto the stencil worked best for a cleaner print edge. Then, I filled black paint into the leopard stencil with the brush.
The zebra print was a little trickier. I used masking tape to create the stripes, trying to make them look as natural as possible. It took some time, and it definitely wasn’t perfect, but I kind of liked the slightly uneven look – it felt more… authentic, I guess?
The Big Reveal
After letting the paint dry completely (I waited overnight, just to be sure), I carefully peeled off the stencils and tape. And… I was pretty happy with the results! The leopard print was bold and fun, and the zebra print, while a little imperfect, had a cool, edgy vibe.

Final Thoughts
Overall, this was a super fun and easy project. It’s a great way to add a personal touch to something plain and boring. And, honestly, it’s kind of therapeutic to just mess around with paint and create something. I’m already thinking about what else I can “animal print-ify”! Maybe some old sneakers next? Or a plain t-shirt? The possibilities are endless!
