So, there’s this movie, right? “The Wolf of Wall Street.” I was watching it the other day, and there’s this crazy scene with a Lamborghini Countach. I mean, this car is a legend. And the main guy, Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, he’s totally wasted and tries to drive this beauty. It’s a disaster. I was curious, so I started digging around to find out more about this car and that scene.
First off, I learned that they used a real 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary for the movie. Not a fake one, a real, honest-to-goodness Countach. I couldn’t believe it! They crashed a piece of automotive history. I mean, I get it, they wanted it to look authentic, but still, that’s a classic car we’re talking about!
Then, I found out they actually used two of these cars for the movie. Apparently, they really wrecked one of them during filming. I watched some behind-the-scenes stuff, and the way that car crumpled was just painful to see. The other one, thankfully, they kept in one piece. That’s the one they call the “Hero Car.”
- Watched the movie: That’s where it all started. I saw the scene and got hooked on the car.
- Looked up the car: I had to know what model it was and found out it was a 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary.
- Discovered they used two: One got smashed up, the other didn’t. I felt a little better knowing at least one survived.
- Found out about the auction: Yep, the “Hero Car” was sold at some fancy auction for over a million and a half bucks! Crazy, right?
The Auction
Speaking of that auction, the “Hero Car” actually got sold! I read that it went for $1,655,000 at an RM Sotheby’s auction in New York. I guess that’s what you’d expect for a car like that, especially with its movie history. The auction house had estimated it would go for somewhere between $1.5 million and $2 million, so they were pretty spot on.
It’s just wild to think about how much that car has been through. From being this pristine example of an iconic supercar to getting trashed in a movie and then ending up in some collector’s garage. It’s got quite the story to tell. I even found a picture of it, next to a still from the movie with DiCaprio in the scene. It’s cool to see them side by side, the car in all its glory, and then the scene where it’s, well, not so glorious. It’s a piece of movie history, that’s for sure. I can totally understand why someone would pay so much to own it. I just hope they appreciate it and take good care of it.
