Okay, so I finally decided to check out one of those Rick Owens fashion shows. You hear about them all the time, right? Always sounds pretty wild, figured I should see it with my own eyes at least once. Wasn’t exactly a walk in the park getting access, took a bit of sorting out, but eventually, I got things lined up.
Getting ready for it… well, I didn’t exactly dress head-to-toe in Rick Owens myself, you know? Just put on some dark stuff, something comfy. Didn’t want to look like I was trying too hard. The trip over there was the usual city hassle. Trains were packed, got a bit turned around trying to find the actual venue. Nearly walked into the wrong door, which is pretty typical for me, honestly.
Found the right spot in the end. And yeah, the atmosphere hits you right away. It was… intense is probably the word. Lots and lots of black clothes everywhere, naturally. The crowd was interesting – some people looked like they lived and breathed this stuff, others seemed like they were just curious, like me. The place itself was kind of raw, maybe an old warehouse or some big, stark building. Felt less like a fashion show starting and more like waiting for some strange, cool underground concert to begin.
The Show Kicks Off
Then the music cranked up. Usually loud, or sometimes just really weird and atmospheric. Lights went down. And the models started coming out. You see photos online, but it really is different seeing it live. The way the fabrics hang, the shapes they make. It’s all very dramatic. Seriously sculptural stuff sometimes. Some outfits looked like they’d be impossible to actually walk around in, while others, if you looked closely, were maybe simpler than the crazy styling made them seem. Saw some pretty wild footwear, of course, those signature boots or something equally nuts. It wasn’t just about selling clothes, felt more like performance art or making some kind of statement. Honestly, half the time I wasn’t entirely sure what the statement was, but you definitely felt something. There was this one bit where fog just completely filled the runway, couldn’t see much for a second. That was pretty memorable.
- The materials often looked really heavy, felt like they had weight.
- Models always have this super serious, almost ghostly look on their faces.
- The soundtrack was usually thumping or really eerie, definitely set a mood.
And then, boom, it was over. They go by pretty fast, actually. Lights came up, music changed, everyone starts getting up and moving towards the exits. Lots of chatter, people dissecting what they just saw. I felt a bit overloaded, to be honest. Needed a minute to just kind of absorb it all. Stepped back outside into the regular street, regular sounds. Felt kind of strange after being in that bubble.
So, yeah. That was my experience at a Rick Owens show. Was it life-changing? Probably not. Would I wear most of that stuff? Definitely no. But was it an experience? Absolutely. Glad I went and saw it for myself. It’s one of those things that you kind of have to witness in person to understand the vibe, even if ‘understanding’ just means feeling the strange energy of it all. It makes you think a bit, which I guess is part of the whole point.
