What’s this Bag All About Anyway?

First off, what is this “messenger bag” thingamajig? Well, it’s like a big ol’ purse for men, I reckon. Got a long strap so you can sling it ‘cross your body. Keeps your hands free, which is good if you’re carryin’ groceries or somethin’. They make ’em outta strong stuff, like leather or that canvas stuff they make tents outta. Plenty of pockets inside too, for all your junk.

  • Got to Stay Connected, I Guess: These youngsters, they always got them fancy phones. So yeah, a smartphone goes in the bag. Gotta call your kin or look up stuff on that there internet, I hear.
  • Keepin’ it Clean: Now, my grandpappy always said, “A clean mouth is a happy mouth.” So, some chewin’ gum or maybe some of that lip balm stuff, what do they call it… chapstick? Yeah, that’ll keep your lips from crackin’ in the wind.
  • Smellin’ Nice: And nobody wants a stinky fella around, right? So a little bottle of that smelly water… cologne, they call it… that’s a good thing to have.

For Fixin’ Things and Such

Now, if you’re a handy fella, you might need some tools.

Pens and Such: Got to write stuff down sometimes, so a pen or two is a must. And one of them thick marker things, a sharpie, they call it. Good for writin’ on anything, even them plastic bags.

Seein’ in the Dark: A small flashlight, that’s useful. Never know when you’ll need to find somethin’ in the dark, or if the power goes out. Happened to us last winter durin’ that big storm. No fun, I tell ya.

If You Ride One of Them Two-Wheelers: If you got one of them bicycles, then some bike tools are a good idea. Fix a flat tire or somethin’.

A Handy Blade: And a knife. Always good to have a knife. Cut open boxes, or rope, or whatever needs cuttin’. My old man always carried a knife. Said a man ain’t a man without a knife.

For Comfort and Entertainment

Keepin’ Warm and Dry: If you live in a place where it rains, like it does here sometimes, a poncho is a good thing to have. Folds up small, but keeps you dry. And an extra pair of socks. Nothin’ worse than wet feet, lemme tell ya.

Listenin’ to Tunes: These kids always got them things in their ears… headphones. Listenin’ to music or whatever they listen to. So, yeah, headphones. And maybe an extra pair of them little earbud things, in case you lose one.

For Passin’ the Time: And if you get bored, a deck of playin’ cards is always good. Solitaire or poker, whatever you like. Kills time on a long bus ride or waitin’ at the doctor’s office.

Other Stuff a Fella Might Need

For Cleanin’ Up: A handkerchief. Always good to have a handkerchief. Wipe your nose, or your brow, or whatever needs wipin’. My grandma always had a handkerchief tucked in her sleeve.

Workin’ on the Go: And if you’re one of them fancy office fellas, you might need a laptop. And all them cords and plugs and whatnot that go with it.

Grooming Yourself: And some grooming tools. You know, a comb, maybe a little brush. Gotta keep yourself lookin’ presentable, even if you’re just goin’ to the grocery store. My mama always said, “Look good, feel good.” She was a smart woman, my mama.

So there you have it. That’s what a fella should carry in one of them messenger bags, I reckon. Seems like a lot of stuff, but hey, better to be prepared, right? You never know what you might need durin’ the day. And havin’ it all in one place, that’s handy. Just don’t forget where you put the bag!
