Getting That Stevie Nicks Look – My Little Project
Okay, so I got this idea stuck in my head the other day. I was digging through some old records, you know, Fleetwood Mac stuff, and saw those album covers. And it hit me, I wanted to try and capture that whole Stevie Nicks vibe with clothes. Not for like, a costume party or anything, just to see if I could pull together something inspired by her look.

So, first thing I did was just kinda look at a bunch of pictures online. You notice patterns pretty quick. It’s all about layers, flowy things, dark colors mostly, but sometimes white lace. And definitely texture – velvet, chiffon, lace, fringe. Lots of fringe.
The Hunt Begins
I started by checking my own closet. Found an old black skirt, kinda long and swishy. That felt like a good base. Then I remembered I had this black lace top tucked away somewhere. Pulled that out. It wasn’t perfect, needed something more. You know how her stuff always looks dramatic?
Shawls. That’s the key, I figured. I don’t own many shawls, really. Had a look online, but didn’t want to buy anything right away. Went down to that second-hand shop near the corner. Spent maybe an hour sifting through scarves and wraps. Found this big, dark paisley print thing. Not exactly Stevie, maybe, but it had potential. It was soft and large enough to drape properly.
- Pulled out the long black skirt.
- Added the black lace top.
- Draped the paisley shawl over my shoulders.
Okay, getting somewhere. But it still felt a bit… plain? Needed more accessories. Stevie always had great boots, right? Platform boots usually. I’ve got these old black boots, not quite platforms, but they have a bit of a heel and that kinda worn look. Put those on.

Trying Different Combos
I messed around a bit more. Tried a different top, a simple black velvet one I forgot I had. That actually worked better with the lace top underneath it, just peeking out at the sleeves and neckline. Layering! See, I was learning.
Then I added some dangly silver necklaces I had lying around. Stacked a couple of them. Felt a bit more like it. Still wasn’t quite the full Rhiannon fantasy, you know? Maybe needed a hat? Don’t really own any Stevie-style hats, though. A top hat would be too much, but maybe like a wide-brimmed floppy one? Didn’t have one, so skipped that for now.
What else? Maybe some bell-bottom jeans instead of the skirt? Tried that with the velvet top and the shawl. Yeah, that worked too. A bit more casual, maybe more ’70s everyday Stevie rather than stage Stevie.
Final Thoughts on the Experiment
So, I didn’t magically transform into a rock goddess. Shocker, right? But it was fun playing around with the textures and the layers. The shawl definitely made the biggest difference. And the boots. You need the right footwear to ground all that floaty fabric.

It’s all about that specific kind of flowy silhouette, the mix of textures like velvet and lace, and obviously, a good shawl or wrap. And dark colours, mostly. Didn’t end up buying anything new except that cheap shawl from the thrift store. Mostly just used bits I already had. It’s kinda cool how you can get a certain feel just by combining things in a different way. Definitely gonna keep that paisley shawl handy, it’s pretty versatile actually.
