You know, the kinda woman who ain’t afraid to be herself, even if it ain’t pretty.

She was paintin’ in what they call the “early modern” times. Don’t know what that means, but I reckon it was a time when things was changin’. And she was right there, paintin’ away.
Now, why ain’t there more of ’em? Well, the men, they didn’t make it easy. They owned the galleries and wrote the reviews, see? So, if a woman wanted to show her work, she had to fight tooth and nail. And even then, they might not get the credit they deserved. Always playin’ second fiddle to them men, that’s what it was.
And don’t forget, women had their jobs to do at home. Raisin’ kids, cookin’ meals, keepin’ the house clean. Ain’t much time left for paintin’ when you got all that on your plate.
