Okay, so, “sydney sweeney marilyn monroe,” right? It started as a random thought, honestly. I was scrolling through Instagram, saw a picture of Sydney Sweeney, and something about her just screamed old Hollywood. Then, BAM! Marilyn Monroe popped into my head.
First thing I did? Google, obviously. “Sydney Sweeney Marilyn Monroe comparison.” I wanted to see if anyone else had the same thought. Turns out, a few people did. Saw some fan edits, a couple of articles. But nothing really digging into it. That’s when I thought, “I’m gonna try and recreate a Marilyn Monroe look on Sydney Sweeney.”
Gathering intel was next. I spent like an hour just looking at photos of Marilyn. Not just the famous ones, but candids too. Trying to figure out what made her her. The hair, the makeup, the way she posed…it was all super specific.
Then I started thinking about Sydney. What are her key features? What kind of angles does she usually work? How can I translate Marilyn’s vibe onto her face without making it look like a cheap imitation?
Makeup was the biggest challenge. Marilyn’s makeup was all about the winged liner, the red lip, and the perfect complexion. Sydney naturally has this fresh, youthful look, so I needed to figure out how to age her up a bit without losing her essence.
- The Base: Started with a matte foundation, a shade or two lighter than Sydney’s natural skin tone. Really wanted to get that porcelain doll look.
- The Eyes: This was crucial. I used a black gel liner and really exaggerated the wing, thicker than I normally would. Lots of mascara, both top and bottom lashes. And a subtle, shimmery champagne eyeshadow on the lid.
- The Cheeks: Soft pink blush, applied high on the cheekbones. Just a hint of contour to define the face.
- The Lips: Classic red lipstick. I went with a matte finish for that vintage feel. Used a lip liner to really define the shape and prevent bleeding.
- The Brows: I used a brow pencil to slightly darken and arch Sydney’s eyebrows, mimicking Marilyn’s iconic brow shape.
Hair was another beast. Marilyn’s hair was always perfectly styled, those bouncy curls were a trademark. Since I couldn’t actually style Sydney’s hair (this was all digital, remember?), I had to rely on Photoshop. I found a picture of Sydney with similar length hair and went to town. Added volume, shaped the curls, and got that signature platinum blonde color just right.

After the makeup and hair, it was all about the lighting and the pose. I studied Marilyn’s photos again, paying attention to how she was lit. Soft, diffused light was key. And her poses were always so confident and playful. I tried to recreate that in the final image.
The whole thing took me, like, five or six hours. It was a lot of trial and error. But in the end, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Did I perfectly capture Marilyn on Sydney? Probably not. But I think I got close. And more importantly, I learned a lot about both of them in the process.
What I realized is that it’s not just about the makeup or the hair. It’s about the attitude, the confidence, the way they carry themselves. That’s what makes them so iconic.
So yeah, that’s the story of my Sydney Sweeney Marilyn Monroe project. A random thought turned into a fun creative experiment. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Got any other celebrity suggestions? Hit me up!
