Okay, so the other day I was talking with my friend, and the brand Abercrombie & Fitch came up. I totally blanked on how to pronounce it! It’s one of those names that looks way different than it sounds, you know? So, I decided I needed to figure this out once and for all.

First, I tried saying it how it looked to me, like “Ah-ber-crom-bee.” My friend just laughed, so I knew that was way off.
My Abercrombie Pronunciation Journey
Then, I went straight to the source. I mean, I opened my phone, you know that’s the solution for all problems, and I typed “how to pronounce Abercrombie” into the search bar. I found a few different things:
- Some people online were having the same problem! It’s not just me.
- There were a couple of videos.
I watched one of the videos. It was pretty short and to the point. The person in the video clearly said it’s pronounced “Ab-er-krom-bee.” So, the “bie” at the end is like the word “bee,” and the emphasis is more on the “krom” part.
I practiced saying it a few times: “Ab-er-krom-bee… Ab-er-krom-bee.” I even repeated the word to myself during work, I think I almost spell the word out loud in some meetings.
Finally, I felt like I had it down. It’s still a little tricky, but way better than my first attempt! Next time the brand comes up in conversation, I’ll be ready. No more awkward pauses or mispronunciations for me!
