Okay, let’s talk about 2011 men’s fashion. Man, that feels like a while ago now, but I remember trying to figure out what was cool back then. It wasn’t like today with everything online instantly. You kinda looked around, maybe flipped through a magazine at the store.

Trying Stuff Out
So, I remember diving in a bit. The big thing everyone talks about is the skinny jeans thing. Yeah, I gave those a shot. Went to the store, grabbed a pair. Getting them on was… an experience. They felt tight, real tight. Walked around the house in them. Honestly? Not for me. Felt kinda restricted. Wore them maybe twice? Then they just sat in the closet. Just couldn’t get comfortable, you know?
V-necks were everywhere too. I definitely bought a few of those. Some were alright, just a normal V. But then there were those deep V-necks. Tried one. Looked in the mirror. Felt kinda ridiculous, like I was trying too hard. Stuck to the regular ones after that. They were okay for layering, I guess.
Stuff I Actually Wore
What did I actually wear consistently from that time? Plaid shirts. Had a bunch. Flannel, mostly. Didn’t usually button them up, though. Wore them open over a plain t-shirt. That was my go-to for a casual look. Easy, comfortable. Can’t go wrong.
Also got into boots around then. Not heavy work boots, but those desert boots. Got a pair of Clarks, I think. Suede ones. They were pretty comfortable once you broke them in. Wore those things everywhere for a good year or two. They went with jeans, chinos… pretty versatile.
- Plaid flannel shirts (usually worn open)
- Basic crew neck t-shirts (for layering)
- Straight-leg jeans (gave up on the skinny ones quick)
- Desert boots
- Maybe a simple cardigan sometimes?
Looking Back
Layering was big, I remember that. Throwing a hoodie under a denim jacket, or a shirt under a sweater. I did some of that. It was practical, especially when the weather changed. Some trends, like those crazy graphic tees or trying to wear scarves indoors, I skipped. Just wasn’t my style.

So yeah, 2011 fashion. For me, it was about trying a few trends, realizing skinny jeans were a mistake (for me, anyway), and sticking with the basics like plaid shirts and decent boots. Some of it stuck around, some of it faded fast. Just part of figuring out your own style, I guess. It was what it was. Simple times, simpler clothes in a way.
