Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with Mariah Carey’s style lately, like, forever, but specifically, I wanted to try and recreate some of her iconic looks. It’s a journey, let me tell you!

Diving In (Head First)
First, I scoured the internet. I mean, hours. Pinterest, Google Images, old magazine scans… I needed all the visual data I could get. I wanted a mix of her super glam moments and some of her more casual (but still totally Mariah) outfits.
I made a list of like, my top 5 dream looks. We’re talking:
- The “Heartbreaker” video rainbow top and jeans. Classic.
- That sparkly, barely-there dress from the VH1 Divas Live performance. Iconic.
- The “Honey” video white bikini and sailor hat. So extra, I love it.
- A classic 90s slip dress moment. Gotta have it.
- Something with butterfly clips. Obviously.
The Hunt
Then came the hard part: actually finding the stuff. The “Heartbreaker” top was surprisingly easy – there are tons of rainbow crop tops out there. The jeans, too – just regular low-rise jeans. I already had a pair!
The sparkly dress? Okay, that was harder. I ended up settling for a sequin mini dress that had a similar vibe. It wasn’t exactly the same, but hey, close enough, right? I am not made of money!
The “Honey” bikini was also pretty easy. White bikinis are everywhere. The sailor hat I found on a random costume website. I might need to tweak it a bit to make it look more authentic, but it’s a good starting point.

For the slip dress, I rummaged through my closet and found a vintage one my mom had. Score! It’s a little big, but nothing a little tailoring can’t fix. Maybe.
Butterfly clips? Amazon, baby! I ordered a whole pack in different colors. I’m ready to butterfly clip EVERYTHING.
The Realization
The biggest challenge, other than finding the clothes? Oh boy. it is Pulling. It. Off. Mariah has this confidence, this aura, that’s hard to replicate. I tried on the “Heartbreaker” outfit and just…felt like a regular person in a rainbow top. Not exactly the diva vibes I was going for.
The Transformation
So, I realized it’s not just about the clothes. It’s about the attitude. I put on some Mariah music, practiced my best “I’m fabulous” pose in the mirror, and tried to channel my inner diva. It’s a work in progress, for sure, but it’s getting there!
I took a few pictures. The lighting is crucial, by the way. Gotta have that good lighting. And the angles! It’s all about the angles.

The whole thing is a fun experiment. I’m not trying to be Mariah, obviously. I’m just having fun and paying homage to one of my style icons. I will continue to try her other styles!
