Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about Macy’s lately. Yeah, the department store. It got me wondering, why is Macy’s considered so middle-class? I mean, they sell everything from clothes to kitchen gadgets, right? So, I decided to dive in and figure this out.

First, I started by looking at what they actually sell. Macy’s has a pretty wide range of stuff. They’ve got clothes, shoes, makeup, jewelry, stuff for your house, you name it. And it’s not just one type of thing, either. You can find casual clothes, fancy dresses, and everything in between. They even have these big sales, like clearance events, where you can snag some pretty good deals.

Next, I started thinking about who shops there. From what I gather, it seems like Macy’s target audience is middle-class folks, especially women between 16 and 34. They are focused on people who make between $30,000 and $100,000 a year. That makes sense, considering the prices and the types of products they offer.

Then, I went on a little field trip. I hit up the Macy’s at the Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio. It was a pretty standard Macy’s – big, lots of different departments, and a mix of people shopping. It didn’t feel super fancy, but it wasn’t exactly a discount store either. It was just, well, normal.

My conclusion?

After all this digging around, I think I get why Macy’s is seen as middle-class. They offer a wide variety of products at reasonable prices, they have these big sales events, and their stores are pretty accessible. They are all about giving their customers, especially those middle-class women, what they want and need. It’s not about being super high-end or super cheap. It’s about being right in the middle, catering to the everyday person. And you know what? That’s not a bad place to be.
