So, I decided I wanted to try out that whole Victoria Beckham style thing. You know, seen her pictures everywhere, always looks so sharp, so put-together. Thought maybe I could borrow some of that vibe. Felt like I needed a bit of a style shake-up anyway.

Getting Started
First thing, I went digging through my own closet. What did I actually have? Found a decent black blazer I bought ages ago, hardly wore it. Some plain white t-shirts, okay. A pair of black trousers, maybe a bit dated but tailored-ish. That was about it. Realized pretty quick my usual stuff is way more casual.
Next step, I looked online. Just typed her name and ‘style’. Okay, lots of very straight trousers, sharp coats, big sunglasses, pointy shoes (mostly heels), and those structured handbags. Everything looked super simple but also… expensive. Colours seemed mostly neutral – black, white, navy, camel. Not a lot of fussy prints or patterns.
Trying It Out
Armed with this ‘research’, I thought I’d try putting an outfit together.
- Attempt 1: Black blazer, white t-shirt, my old black trousers. Looked in the mirror. Felt… okay? A bit like I was trying too hard for an office job I don’t have. The trousers definitely weren’t quite right, not flowy or sharp enough.
- Attempt 2: Tried finding similar pieces online that weren’t designer prices. Found some wide-leg trousers that looked the part. Ordered them. Got some pointy flats because heels all day? Not happening for me.
When the new trousers arrived, I tried again. Blazer, t-shirt, new trousers, pointy flats. Added my biggest sunglasses. Okay, this felt a bit closer. The silhouette was there. But it also felt kinda… stiff? Not really me. I usually like clothes I can move around in easily.
I actually wore this combo out to meet a friend for coffee. Felt quite self-conscious at first. Like I was wearing a costume. My friend didn’t say anything, which maybe means it looked fine? Or maybe she was just being polite. Hard to tell.

The Reality Check
Here’s the thing. Maintaining that look seems like hard work.
First, the cost. Even finding cheaper alternatives, getting that really sharp tailoring and quality feel costs money. Good fabrics make a difference, and they aren’t cheap. Her actual stuff? Way out of my budget.
Second, practicality. Those super structured bags look cool, but can they even hold my wallet, keys, phone, and the random junk I carry around? And the heels she wears? I walk a fair bit, take public transport. It’s just not practical for my real life.
Third, it’s a very specific look. It felt quite restrictive. Minimalist is nice, but sometimes I like a bit of colour, or something comfy and easy. This felt like it needed effort, steaming the trousers just right, making sure everything hung perfectly.
So, What Now?
I don’t think I’ll be going full VB anytime soon. It just doesn’t quite fit my lifestyle or frankly, my personality. Felt like I was playing dress-up.

But, I did learn some things. I actually really liked the feeling of wearing well-cut trousers. Made me feel a bit more pulled together. And the simple colour palette? It does make getting dressed easier.
So, I think I’ll take bits and pieces. Maybe invest in one really good pair of tailored trousers. Might wear my blazer more often. Stick to simpler colours sometimes. But yeah, the head-to-toe look? I’ll leave that to Posh Spice. Back to my comfy jeans for now, mostly.
