Okay, so today I decided to tackle something I’ve been wanting to do for ages – making my own pair of raver jeans. I’ve always loved that wide-leg, super comfy style, and I figured, why not try making them myself?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed a plan. I’m no sewing expert, so I spent some time looking at pictures of raver jeans online, just to get a feel for the shape and how they’re put together. I roughly sketched out what I was thinking and measured my waist before I started to cut anything.
The Fabric Hunt
Next up, fabric shopping! I wanted something durable but not too stiff, and ideally with a bit of a cool pattern or color. I hit up a few local fabric stores and finally found this awesome, slightly stretchy denim with a subtle dark wash. Perfect!
Cutting and Pinning
- I laid out the fabric.
- Used some old jeans as a very rough guide for the basic shape, make sure it’s way wider at the bottom.
- Then I cut out the pieces. This was definitely the scariest part, because once you cut, there’s no going back!
- After cutting, I pinned the pieces together inside out, making sure to leave plenty of room for adjustments.
Sewing Machine Struggles
Time for the sewing machine. Let me tell you, this was a learning experience. I definitely had to rip out a few seams and start over a couple of times. The denim was a bit thicker than I’m used to working with, so I had to adjust the tension on my machine. But hey, that’s part of the process, right?
Trying Them On (and Adjusting)
After I sewed the main seams, I carefully turned the jeans right-side out and tried them on. Of course, they weren’t perfect on the first try. I had to take them in a bit at the waist and adjust the length a little. More pinning, more sewing, more trying on. It was a bit of a back-and-forth process.
Finishing Touches
Once I was happy with the fit, I finished the raw edges with a zig-zag stitch to prevent fraying. I also added a simple button closure at the waist. I thought about adding some extra pockets or maybe some patches, but I decided to keep it simple for my first attempt.

Finally, I had my very own, handmade pair of raver jeans! They’re not perfect, but I’m super proud of them. It was a fun project, and I definitely learned a lot along the way. Now I’m excited to wear them and maybe even try making another pair with some different design tweaks!
