Okay, so, you wanna know about this Avery Trufelman, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, I ain’t no fancy writer or nothin’, but I’ll tell ya what I know. This Avery, she’s a big deal in the podcast world, ya hear? Podcasts, that’s like radio shows, but on your phone or that computer thingy.
Now, this girl, she’s got this show called “Articles of Interest.” Sounds fancy, right? But it ain’t so complicated. She talks about clothes. Yeah, you heard me, clothes. But not just like, “Oh, this shirt is pretty.” Naw, she goes deep, like, real deep. She tells you where them clothes come from, how they’re made, and why we wear ’em the way we do. It’s kinda like learnin’ history, but with more buttons and zippers.
I listened to a few of her shows, and let me tell ya, it’s somethin’ else. She talks real clear, even though she uses some big words sometimes. But you get the gist of it, ya know? Like, one time she talked about pockets. POCKETS! Can you believe it? Who knew there was so much to say about pockets? But she made it interestin’, I tell ya. She talked about how women’s clothes used to have hardly any pockets, and how that was a whole thing about, ya know, women not havin’ the same rights as men. See? Clothes ain’t just clothes, they tell a story.
- She makes you think about stuff you never thought about before.
- Like why jeans are blue, or why we wear certain things to work.
- It’s kinda like she’s openin’ your eyes to a whole new world, right there in your closet.
Avery, she also works for this other podcast called “99% Invisible.” That one’s about design, I think. Like, how things are made and why they look the way they do. Buildings, streets, even that little ketchup bottle on your table. She’s a producer there, which means she helps make the show happen. She finds the stories, talks to people, and puts it all together. Sounds like a lot of work, if you ask me.
Folks say she’s real good at what she does. They give her awards and stuff. I ain’t surprised. She’s got a way of talkin’ that just grabs ya. She’s curious, ya know? She wants to know how things work and why things are the way they are. And she makes you curious too. That’s a gift, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t gonna lie, some of her shows can be a bit long. And sometimes she talks about things I don’t quite understand. But even then, I still find myself listenin’. There’s somethin’ about her voice, somethin’ about the way she tells a story, that just keeps you hooked. She’s got that kind of voice, you hear, the kind that just makes you want to listen. It’s like she’s talking right to ya, even though you know she’s talkin’ to a whole bunch of other folks too. And she’s got all sorts of interesting folks on her show too, talking about all sorts of things. Makes you feel like you’re part of a conversation.
And she doesn’t just stick to clothes, ya know? She talks about all kinds of stuff. She’s got recommendations for other podcasts, too. Sounds like she listens to a whole lot of stuff herself. I reckon she’s always learnin’, always lookin’ for new things to discover. That’s how she keeps things fresh, I guess. Keeps you comin’ back for more.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ new to listen to, somethin’ that’ll make ya think, somethin’ that’ll open your eyes to the world around ya, well, give this Avery Trufelman a try. You might just learn a thing or two. And even if ya don’t, well, at least you’ll have somethin’ to talk about at the next church picnic. You can tell everyone about pockets and zippers and all that fancy stuff. They’ll think you’re real smart.
