Yo, folks, let me tell you about this project I’ve been messing with, called “Butt Madonna”. Sounds wild, right? It all started when I stumbled upon some old paintings and statues, you know, the ones with Mary and baby Jesus. They call some of these “Black Madonna,” and apparently, they’ve been around since, like, the 12th century, way back. I got hooked on this idea, and it’s been a fun ride.
So, first things first, I had to dig up a bunch of these images. Spent hours scrolling through pictures of Madonnas. I found out that these Black Madonna images are all over Catholic places. Most of ’em are from the Middle Ages, really old stuff, and they show Mary holding baby Jesus. It’s pretty cool how they show a mom’s love and all that, but with a twist because of the “black” part.
Then, I started thinking, what’s the deal with the dark colors? Turns out, it’s like a symbol of, you know, deep stuff. It represents the cycle of life, and mother nature, and other things I am learning as I go. Some folks even say it’s about overcoming bad vibes. I thought that was pretty deep, so I decided to make something inspired by this concept.
I grabbed my tools and started playing around. I wanted to create something that captures that old-school vibe but also feels new. I experimented with different styles, like this one painting I saw by some dude named Vicente Manansala, he did this “Madonna of the Slums” thing with all these shapes and earthy colors. It looked a little sad, but it had a powerful message, so I tried incorporating some of those ideas, too.
It wasn’t easy, I messed up a lot, redid things over and over, but that’s part of the fun, right? You learn as you go. And then, I remembered this story about Madonna, the singer, you know? She lost her mom when she was super young, and that pushed her to become who she is today. I figured, maybe there’s a connection there with these old Madonna images – like, overcoming tough times and all that. I tried a painting that expressed that story too.
I also played with the colors. Like, in those old paintings, Mary often wears blue, which apparently means she’s the “Queen of Heaven.” I thought, what if I flip it? What if I use different colors to tell a different story? So, I painted away, mixed colors, and made a big mess, honestly, but it was awesome.
And I also wanted to include that feeling of real life in my work, you know, like those paintings where the Madonna and Child look like regular people, not just some holy figures. There’s this one painting where baby Jesus is pushing away Mary’s veil, and it’s so sweet and tender. I thought, I gotta have some of that in my project, too.
After a ton of work, a few failed attempts, and a whole lot of paint, I finally finished. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty stoked about it. It’s got that ancient feel, but it’s also got my own flavor, you know?
So, that’s the story of my “Butt Madonna” project. It was a wild ride, full of history, symbolism, and a whole lot of creativity. Hope you guys dig it! Let me know what you think, and maybe you’ll get inspired to create something cool, too!
And that’s about it. I’m really happy with how it turned out, even though it took forever and I messed up plenty of times. It’s all about the journey, right? And hey, if this kinda stuff interests you, go check out some of those old Black Madonna images. They’re pretty fascinating, and who knows, maybe you’ll come up with your own crazy project!
