Bag Charm Trend: Whats Hot and How to Style It Now

Okay, so bag charms, right? I’ve been seeing them everywhere, and I thought, “Hey, I can totally make some cool ones myself!” So, I dove in. First, I hit up my local craft store. Spent like, an hour just wandering around, grabbing anything that looked remotely interesting.

I started with the basics: some keychain rings, you know, the standard ones. Then I grabbed a bunch of colorful beads. Like, a whole rainbow of plastic and glass beads. Some funky-shaped ones too, because why not? Oh, and some of those letter beads, ’cause I figured I could personalize them.

Next, I went for the charms themselves. Found a section with all sorts of little metal doodads. Picked up some cute animals (a tiny elephant, a little turtle), some stars, a moon, and a couple of those dangly feather things. They even had mini tassels in different colors – couldn’t resist!

Got home, spread everything out on my table, and just… stared at it for a while. Felt a bit overwhelmed, to be honest. Where to even start?

So, I just started playing around. Tried stringing beads onto some wire, then attaching the wire to a keychain ring. That was okay, but looked kinda boring. Then I tried using some embroidery floss to tie beads directly to the ring. That looked better, more texture and color.

The first one I made was pretty simple. Just a keychain ring, some blue and silver beads, and the little metal moon charm. Tied it all together with blue embroidery floss. It was kinda cute, but felt a bit…meh. Needed more oomph.

For the second one, I went bolder. Used a thicker piece of leather cord instead of floss. Strung on some bigger, chunkier beads – bright red, yellow, and green. Added the tiny elephant charm and one of those dangly feather things. That one felt way more like it! It had some personality.

Then I started experimenting with different techniques. Tried wrapping the embroidery floss around the keychain ring in a spiral, creating a sort of colorful base to attach the charms to. That looked pretty cool. Also tried using some pliers to open up the jump rings on the metal charms and attach them directly to the beads.

I messed up a bunch of times, of course. Beads fell off, knots came undone, the pliers slipped and I almost stabbed myself in the eye (okay, maybe not quite, but close!). But I kept at it.

After a few hours, I had a whole pile of bag charms. Some were good, some were… well, let’s just say they’re not going on my favorite bag anytime soon. But hey, that’s part of the process, right?

Learned a lot, had some fun, and now I have a bunch of unique bag charms to jazz up my stuff. Might even make some for my friends. Who knows, maybe I’ll even sell them! But for now, I’m just happy with my little DIY bag charm adventure.

Tips I picked up along the way:

  • Don’t be afraid to experiment! Try different materials, colors, and techniques.
  • Use good-quality tools. Makes a huge difference.
  • Don’t try to make it perfect. The imperfections are what make it unique.
  • And most importantly: Have fun!

Gonna try making some more elaborate ones next time. Maybe with some fabric scraps and buttons. Stay tuned!
