Okay, so here’s the deal. I kept seeing stuff about guys wearing eyeliner, photos online, musicians, that sort of thing. And I got curious. Like, what’s the big deal? Could I pull it off? Decided I had to try it myself, just to see.

Getting Started – The Awkward Part
First step, obviously, was getting some eyeliner. This was maybe the weirdest part. I walked into a drugstore, headed towards the makeup section. Felt a bit out of place, not gonna lie. So many options! Pencils, liquids, gels, pots… what the heck? I just wanted something simple. I ended up grabbing a basic black pencil eyeliner. Seemed like the easiest to start with, less chance of making a huge mess, I figured. Paid for it quickly and pretty much bolted out of there.
The First Attempt – Disaster Zone
Got home, went to the bathroom mirror. Took out the pencil. Okay, how hard can this be? Held the pencil, tried to draw a line along my top eyelid, right near the lashes. Big mistake. My hand was shaky, I blinked like crazy, and ended up poking myself near the eye. Didn’t hurt, but it startled me. The line was wobbly, thick in some places, barely there in others. And I somehow smudged it almost immediately. Looked less ‘cool rockstar’ and more ‘tired raccoon’. Not the look I was going for.
- Grabbed some tissues and makeup remover (borrowed some, let’s be honest).
- Wiped it all off. Skin felt a bit raw.
- Took a deep breath. Okay, attempt number two.
Learning Curve & Practice
This time, I tried pulling the corner of my eye slightly taut. Saw someone do that in a video I quickly looked up on my phone (yeah, I cheated). It actually helped a bit. Made the skin smoother to draw on. I used short, light strokes instead of trying to draw one continuous line. It was still far from perfect, but definitely better than the first try. Less smudging, a bit more even. I tried the other eye. Same deal. Took a few tries, lots of wiping and reapplying. Patience, man, you need patience for this stuff.
The Result & How It Felt
After maybe the fourth or fifth attempt on each eye, I stepped back and looked. It wasn’t a dramatic change. Just a thin, dark line right at the base of my upper lashes. Honestly? It kinda worked. Didn’t look weird or over the top. Just made my eyes look a bit more defined, maybe more intense? Hard to describe. It felt strange, being aware of something on my eyelids. I didn’t go out anywhere fancy, just wore it around the house for a bit to see how it felt. Caught my reflection a few times. Sometimes I thought ‘yeah, that’s pretty cool’, other times ‘is this really me?’.
Final Thoughts
So, that was my little experiment with eyeliner. It was definitely an experience. Takes practice, for sure. Way more than I thought. It wasn’t life-changing, but it was interesting to try something different, step outside the usual. Would I do it regularly? Probably not every day. Maybe for a specific occasion or just for fun sometimes. It’s just makeup, right? No big deal. But yeah, went through the process, tried it out, saw what happened. That’s the story.
