My Go at Using One of Those Manicure Sets
Alright, so someone gave me one of those manicure sets a while back. You know the kind, comes in a little case with a bunch of shiny tools inside. It sat in a drawer for ages because, honestly, who has the time, right? Plus, my nails were just… there. Never really paid them much mind.
But the other day, I was looking at my hands and thought, geez, they look a bit rough. Hangnails catching on everything. Decided to finally crack open that little case.
Opened it up, and wow. So many little tools. Felt a bit like looking at a surgeon’s kit or something. There were clippers, big ones and small ones, pointy things, pokey things, curvy things. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what half of them were even for. The little instruction paper was useless, tiny pictures and weird names.
So, I just kinda winged it. Figured I’d start simple. Grabbed the big clippers first. They felt solid, heavy. Snip snip. Okay, that part was easy enough, trimmed the length down. Then I used the smaller, angled clippers for the sides. Those were a bit trickier, nearly took off too much on one finger. Gotta be careful there.
Next up was the file. It wasn’t one of those cheap cardboard ones, this one was metal. Felt weird at first, kinda scratchy, but it did the job smoothing out the edges after clipping. Took a bit of back and forth to get them shaped okay, not perfect, but better.
Then I looked at the pointy things. One had a sort of spoon shape on the end? Figured that was for the cuticles, the skin around the nail bed. Gently pushed them back like I’ve seen people do. Didn’t hurt, just felt a bit strange. There was another tool, looked like tiny scissors with curved blades. Used those to carefully snip off a particularly annoying hangnail that had been bothering me for days. That felt good, not gonna lie.
Here’s what I messed with:
- Big Nail Clippers: For the main trim. Easy peasy.
- Smaller Angled Clippers: For the edges. Need a steady hand.
- Metal Nail File: For shaping and smoothing. Works alright.
- Cuticle Pusher (the spoon thingy): Pushed back the skin. Felt weird but okay.
- Small Curved Scissors: For hangnails. Success!
There were a few other tools in there, tweezers and some other pokey stick I didn’t dare touch. Maybe next time. Didn’t want to push my luck.
So, after maybe 20 minutes of fiddling around, my nails actually looked… decent. Cleaner. Tidier. Not like I’d just walked out of a salon, obviously, but way better than before. It wasn’t rocket science, just took a bit of patience and figuring out which tool did what. Kinda satisfying, doing it yourself. Saved a few bucks too, I guess. Might actually keep this little kit handy now.
