First off, I just blitzed through all the looks on whatever site had them first. Vogue Runway, usually. Just to get a feel, a quick hit. Then, the real work starts. I go back, piece by piece. Zoom in on the tailoring, the materials, how the damn bags are carried. And the shoes, always gotta check the shoes. They tell you more than you’d think.
Then I fired up the show video. “LA COLLECTION DE LA BIBLIOTHÈQUE NATIONALE,” they called it. Bit of a mouthful. Watched it once straight through. Music, models, the whole shebang. Then, I’m that guy who watches it again, pausing it every two seconds, rewinding. Bit much, maybe, but that’s how I really get a grip on what they’re putting out there.
- Fabric check: Looked like their usual good quality gear. Tweeds, leathers, some decent knits. You can usually tell, even on video.
- The Cut: Big thing for Celine, right? What’s the shape this season? That’s what I’m looking for.
- How it’s all put together: The styling. That’s where you see if it’s just clothes or an actual look. Layers, accessories, the lot.
What I Got From It – The Real Deal
So, after all that palaver, what’s the verdict? Well, it’s Celine, alright. No massive shocks. Which, you know, can be a good or a bad thing, depending on what you’re after. I lean towards good. It’s reliable. You sort of know the ballpark, and the quality is generally there if that particular aesthetic is your cup of tea.
Loads of stuff you could actually wear. That’s what struck me. Not just crazy runway pieces that look good for ten seconds under a spotlight. Those jackets are sharp. And the boots, man, they always nail the boots.
It’s funny, I remember years ago, trying to keep up with fashion felt like a joke. Everything was so over the top. I once tried to copy some runway look from, like, the early noughties. Absolute disaster. Looked like I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards by a fabric delivery van. My friends still haven’t let me live it down. So now, when I see a collection that’s just solid, well-made, sharp but actually wearable, I kind of nod along. They’re not trying to set the world on fire with some brand-new invention, just making really good clothes. That’s my takeaway from this whole exercise. Looking past the noise for the stuff that genuinely works. And Celine, yeah, they pretty much stick to that. That’s what my “practice” tells me, anyway.
