Okay, so I got thinking about the 80s the other day, specifically the fashion scene. It just popped into my head, maybe I saw an old movie or something, I dunno. Anyway, I decided to spend some time actually looking into the fashion models from back then. It wasn’t like some big research project, just me messing around and seeing what I could find.

First thing I did was just jump online. Started searching for generic stuff like “top models 80s”. That brought up a bunch of familiar faces, you know, the ones you’d see on magazine covers all the time back then. Names like Christie Brinkley, Elle Macpherson, Iman… they were everywhere.
Then I started digging a bit more specifically. I tried remembering specific magazine covers or ads. It’s fuzzy, but I recalled some looks. Wow, the style was something else. Big hair was definitely a thing, like, really big. And the shoulder pads! Can’t forget those. The makeup too, much stronger colors, bolder looks compared to the more natural thing you see a lot of today.
Digging Through Old Looks
I spent a while just clicking through image search results. Found myself looking at old Vogue patterns, runway shots, and those classic cosmetic ads. It was interesting to see the different vibes.
- You had the super healthy, all-American sporty look.
- Then there was the more intense, high-fashion, almost intimidating look.
- And lots of very colorful, sometimes kinda wild outfits.
It wasn’t just about the clothes, but the whole attitude they seemed to project. Very confident, very strong poses. It felt different from now, not better or worse, just… different. More powerful, maybe?
I even found some old interview clips. It was cool hearing them talk, seeing their personalities beyond the still photos. Some of them were really involved in the whole creative process back then, not just faces.

So yeah, that was my little trip back to the 80s modeling world. Didn’t really have a goal other than satisfying my curiosity. It was fun, actually. Spent a good couple of hours just browsing, remembering stuff, and seeing those iconic looks again. Made me appreciate how much things change, but also how some of that bold 80s energy still feels kinda cool. Just a fun little nostalgia dive, really.
