Okay, so I got thinking about Chloe Sevigny and the Met Gala the other day. Not sure why, maybe saw a picture somewhere. Anyway, I’ve always kinda tracked her style, you know? She doesn’t do the expected princess dress thing most of the time.
So, I decided to actually dig into it a bit more. Not like, super academic or anything, just for my own interest. I went online, started grabbing images of her from different Met Galas over the years. Just saved them into a folder on my computer. Took a while actually, finding good quality pics from the older ones isn’t always easy.
Sorting Through the Looks
Once I had a decent collection, maybe like a dozen different appearances, I started laying them out. Well, not physically laying them out, but like, opening them all up on my screen. I just wanted to see the progression, or if there even was one.
What I did was:
- Looked at the year and the theme for each gala. Sometimes her outfit made sense with the theme, sometimes… less so? Or maybe in her own way.
- Made little notes for myself. Just quick thoughts like “Wow, that was bold” or “Okay, interesting choice of designer” or “Remember this haircut?”.
- Tried to see if there was a common thread. Like, does she always lean towards certain shapes, or designers, or vibes?
It wasn’t super organized. More like flipping through a personal photo album. Some years I really got what she was doing, others felt a bit like an inside joke I wasn’t in on. But that’s kinda her thing, right? Never boring.
My Takeaway
Honestly? My main takeaway was just appreciating the consistency of her not being consistent. She seems to just wear what she finds interesting, theme or no theme sometimes. It felt less like a celebrity playing dress-up and more like someone genuinely exploring fashion, even on this huge stage.
Didn’t really come up with a grand theory or anything. It was just a fun little exercise, looking back at all those outfits in one go. Made me appreciate her approach to style even more. You don’t always have to follow the crowd, even at the Met Gala. Just doing my own thing, looking into stuff I find cool, that’s the point I guess.
