So, I decided to get into this whole “brunette male model” thing. It all started when I was scrolling through Instagram, you know, just killing time. I saw all these guys with their perfect hair and chiseled jaws, making it look so easy. I thought, “Hey, I’ve got dark hair, why not give it a shot?”

First things first, I needed to figure out what agencies are looking for. I mean, it can’t just be about having a good-looking face, right? Turns out, it’s not. They want someone who can tell a story, who can bring some emotion to the photos. And yeah, having a symmetrical face, clear skin, and maybe some high cheekbones wouldn’t hurt, I guess.
I started by trying to take better pictures of myself. I asked a buddy to help me out, and we spent an afternoon trying to get some decent shots. It was way harder than it looks! Finding the right lighting, the right angle, trying not to look awkward – it was a whole ordeal. I ended up with hundreds of pictures, and maybe, like, five that were kinda usable.
Then, I dove into the world of modeling agencies. I looked up some of the big names like Ford Models and Wilhelmina. I also found out that a lot of agencies are using Instagram to scout new talent. It’s crazy, right? So, I started using #MaleModel in my posts, hoping to catch someone’s eye.
- Started following modeling agencies on Instagram.
- Tried to up my selfie game.
- Researched what agencies look for in male models.
- Used relevant hashtags to get noticed.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing, though. I got a lot of rejections, or just straight-up silence. It’s tough putting yourself out there and not getting the response you hope for. But I kept at it, trying to improve my portfolio and reach out to more agencies.
Eventually, I did get a few responses. One agency said they liked my look but wanted me to work on my posing. Another said I needed more variety in my photos. It was all useful feedback, even if it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to hear. I did start to get some modelling practice to improve the posing.

What I learned along the way
Honestly, the whole experience has been a lot more work than I expected. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about being able to present yourself in a certain way, about understanding what the industry wants. It’s also about being persistent and not getting discouraged by rejections. It can be frustating, but I kept going.
I’m still not sure where this whole modeling thing will take me. Maybe it’ll lead to something big, maybe it won’t. But either way, it’s been an interesting journey. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and I’ve definitely gotten better at taking selfies, haha!
To keep going, I set myself a schedule to follow up with agencies and scouts I found through Instagram and in person, keeping track of dates, times, and responses. I’m still improving, and hopefully I can get something out of it.
So, yeah, that’s my story about trying to become a brunette male model. It’s been a wild ride, and it’s definitely not over yet. Wish me luck!
