Okay, so I’ve been messing around with different animal prints for a new project, and I got stuck on leopard print versus cheetah print. They look kinda the same, right? But they’re not, and I wanted to really nail the differences. So, I dove in.

Digging into the Details
First, I gathered a bunch of reference images. I mean, a lot. Pictures of actual leopards and cheetahs, fabric swatches, clothing designs, everything I could find. I wanted to see these prints in all sorts of contexts.
Then, I started sketching. I filled pages of my notebook just trying to replicate the patterns. This is where it really hit me how different they are.
- Leopard Spots: These are more like rosettes. You know, those flower-ish shapes? They’re clumped together, with a darker outline and a lighter brown inside. It’s like a little cluster of spots, not just one solid dot.
- Cheetah Spots: These are way simpler. Just solid, roundish black dots. No fancy clusters, no outlines, just straight-up spots. They’re also more evenly spaced out than the leopard’s rosettes.
After sketching like a madman and compare with refrence photos,I applied some test patterns onto some simple 3D models – just basic shapes, nothing fancy. I wanted to see how the prints wrapped around curves and how they looked from different angles.
Finally, I tried generate those * seems so easy at the begining but actually not!I kept adjusting the samll details then compare to the real animal’s photo.I tried serveral tools and brushes util I got the final result.

So, yeah, that’s my little adventure in the world of animal prints. Turns out, there’s more to those spots than you might think! It’s all about the details, the clusters versus the dots, the spacing… It’s a whole * now,I can say I finally get the point!
