Alright, so Coterie Las Vegas. Yeah, I went. Figured I’d share what that whole circus was like, from my end anyway. It’s always a bit of a thing, these big trade shows, and Vegas just adds its own special flavor to the mix, you know?

Getting Myself There

So, the decision. Heard the usual industry chatter, Coterie’s a big name if you’re in certain circles. Vegas, though. That’s always a whole production. First thing, flights and hotel. You gotta book that stuff way out, or you’re paying through the nose. Found something that didn’t totally break the bank, but Vegas prices during a big event? Ouch. Getting the actual badge for Coterie, that was easy enough. Did it all online, click click, done. That part, at least, wasn’t a headache.

Landed in Vegas, and bam! That desert air and the sheer scale of everything hits you. Grabbed a ride, told the driver to head to the hotel first. No way I was dragging my suitcase around the convention floor. Checked in, dumped my stuff, and then it was off to the main event. The convention center they use, it’s like its own small city. Seriously, you could get lost in there for days.

Diving into the Coterie Chaos

First day, I just plunged right in. Booths everywhere. Some brands you know, tons you’ve never heard of. It’s a proper maze. My feet were already complaining after a couple of hours. I tried to have a bit of a plan, you know? Like:

  • Hit up a few specific brands I’d earmarked.
  • See what the new, smaller labels were showing.
  • Try not to get overwhelmed by all the glitter.

Some folks at the booths were great, actually wanted to talk. Others, you could tell they were just counting down the minutes. Standard stuff.

Saw a lot of… well, a lot of clothes. Some interesting trends, lots of talk about being ‘eco-friendly’ – that word was everywhere. You see some genuinely cool designs, innovative ideas. Then you see stuff that just makes you scratch your head. That’s fashion, I guess. Networking was on the agenda, naturally. Swapped a few business cards, had some okay conversations. But it’s mostly quick hellos and “let’s connect laters.” Everyone’s got their own hustle going on.

So, What’s the Real Deal?

Vegas Coterie is… an experience. It’s loud. It’s flashy. It’s very, very Vegas. Sometimes it felt more like a party than a place to do serious business, but maybe that’s the point for some. The sheer volume of people, the constant noise, the endless rows of displays – it’s a lot to take in. Honestly, it’s draining. You’re ‘on’ all day, talking, looking, walking. By the end of each day, I was beat.

Was it worth the trip, the cost, the sore feet? Yeah, I’d say so, for what I needed this time. Made a couple of potentially useful contacts. Got a better feel for where things are heading, or at least where some people think things are heading. But it’s not a magic bullet, these shows. You gotta sift through a whole lot of sand to find any gold.

My big takeaway? These massive events are all pretty much cut from the same cloth. You go, you schmooze, you see the latest shiny objects, and you get exhausted. The real skill is pinpointing what’s actually valuable for you amidst all the chaos. Oh, and next time, I’m packing even more comfortable shoes. Seriously, that’s non-negotiable.
