Peak Design Luigi Review: The Best Camera Strap for Comfort?

Okay, so I’ve been eyeing the Peak Design straps for a while, you know, because everyone raves about them. But I also stumbled upon this “Luigi” thing – apparently, it’s a popular, kinda old-school Italian-made camera strap. I was torn. Should I go with the popular, modern choice or this classic-looking one? Screw it, I decided to try both and see what the fuss was about.

Getting My Hands on Them

First, I ordered the Peak Design strap. Easy peasy, found it online, clicked a few buttons, and boom, it was on its way. The Luigi strap? That was a different story. It felt like a treasure hunt! I had to dig through some forums, find a guy who knew a guy, and finally, I tracked down a website that seemed legit. Fingers crossed, I placed the order.

The Peak Design Experience

The Peak Design strap arrived first. Unboxing it was pretty slick – nice packaging, felt very professional. I immediately started messing with the Anchor Links. Those little things are genius! I clicked them onto my camera, adjusted the strap length, and slung it over my shoulder. Felt good, super secure, and I could switch between different carry styles pretty easily. I took it out for a few days, shooting some street photography and even a little hike. It held up great, no complaints.

  • Easy to adjust: I could quickly change the length depending on how I wanted to carry my camera.
  • Super secure: Never felt like my camera was going to fall off.
  • Versatile: Neck strap, sling strap, shoulder strap – it did it all.

The Luigi Strap Arrival

Then, the Luigi strap showed up. The packaging was… well, let’s just say it was “rustic.” No fancy boxes here, just a simple wrapped package. But when I unwrapped it, wow. The leather smelled amazing, and it just felt… different. It was soft, supple, and you could tell it was handcrafted. I attached it to my camera (no fancy clips here, just good old-fashioned strap loops), and it just looked classic.

Putting Luigi to the Test

I took the Luigi strap out for a spin. It wasn’t as instantly adjustable as the Peak Design, but once I found the right length, it was incredibly comfortable. It molded to my shoulder, and the leather just felt… right. I walked around for hours, taking photos, and it never dug in or felt uncomfortable. There’s something about the simplicity of it that I really appreciated. It’s just a strap, but it’s a really good strap.

My Verdict (For Now!)

Honestly, I like them both, for different reasons.

The Peak Design is like the Swiss Army knife of camera straps – super versatile and practical.

The Luigi strap is like your favorite old leather jacket – comfortable, stylish, and it just gets better with age.

I am keeping both.

I’m going to use the Peak Design for more active shoots and the Luigi strap for when I want a more classic, understated look.

It really just be that simple.
