Obsessed with Quilted Purses? (See the Latest Trends)

Okay, so I’ve been wanting a cute little quilted purse for a while now. I saw some online, but they were all, like, way too expensive. So, I thought, “Hey, I can totally make one myself!” And that’s exactly what I did. Let me tell you, it was a bit of an adventure, but I’m so happy with how it turned out.

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to gather my supplies. I already had a bunch of fabric scraps from previous projects, so I picked out some cute floral patterns that I thought would look good together. I mean the most important part is getting the right style, right?.

Besides fabrics, I grabbed:

  • Some batting to give it that fluffy, quilted look.
  • A zipper, obviously, gotta keep my stuff secure.
  • Matching thread.
  • My trusty sewing machine, of course.
  • Pins, scissors, a ruler, and all that jazz.

The Quilting Process

I started by cutting out my fabric pieces. I didn’t really follow a pattern, I just kind of winged it. I cut out two rectangles for the front and back, and then some smaller pieces for the sides and bottom. After everything was cut out, I layered the fabric with the batting in between, kind of like making a fabric sandwich, top fabric, batting, and then the lining fabric. Pinning everything together was super important to stop it from all sliding around in the next step.

Then came the actual quilting. This was the fun part, I just sewed straight lines across the fabric, creating a grid pattern. It’s what gives it that classic quilted look. My lines weren’t perfectly straight, but hey, that’s part of the charm, right? It’s handmade, not machine-perfect!

Putting It All Together

Once the quilting was done, it was time to assemble the purse. I sewed the side and bottom pieces to the front and back, making sure to leave the top open for the zipper, then I carefully sewed in the zipper, which was a little tricky, I’m not gonna lie. There were a few moments where I thought I’d messed it up, but I just took a deep breath and kept going.

Finally, I added a strap. I just used a long strip of fabric, folded it in half, and sewed it to the sides of the purse. It really put everything together!

The Finished Product!

And there you have it! My very own handmade quilted purse. It’s not perfect, but I love it. It’s unique, it’s cute, and it holds all my essentials. Plus, I made it myself, which is pretty darn cool. If I can do it, anyone can, seriously! Just be sure to give it a try, you might just be surprised how good you are.
