Okay, so I saw this cool “lion dress” thing trending and thought, “I gotta try that!” It looked like a fun weekend project, and I’m always up for a little DIY challenge. Let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to rock a homemade lion dress?

First things first, I needed a plan. I’m no sewing expert, more like a “wing it and hope for the best” kind of crafter. I started by sketching out a super rough idea. Basically, a simple dress shape with a whole lotta fluff for the mane. I pictured myself as the Lion King. lol.
Gathering Supplies
- Hunted down some fabric. I went with a golden-yellow fabric for the main dress and various shades of brown and orange felt for the mane. I’m pretty sure I cleaned out the local craft store’s felt aisle.
- Grabbed a basic dress pattern online. Nothing fancy, just something to give me a general shape to follow.
- Dug out my trusty sewing machine. It’s old, it’s clunky, but it gets the job done… usually.
- Stocked up on thread, scissors, pins, and a whole lot of patience. Because, let’s face it, this was probably going to take a while.
The Mane Event
The mane was definitely the most time-consuming part. I cut out tons of felt strips, all different lengths and widths, to give it that wild, untamed look. I may have watched a few nature documentaries for inspiration, I won’t lie.
Then, I started pinning and sewing those strips onto the neckline and shoulders of the dress. Layer upon layer, it slowly started to resemble a mane. It was messy, it was furry, and it was awesome.
My fingers got pretty sore after a while. There’s much work to do. There’s much work to do. I guess,I should stick to coding.
Putting It All Together
Once the mane was (mostly) done, I sewed the dress itself together, following the pattern as best as I could. I definitely made a few mistakes along the way. Okay, maybe more than a few. But hey, that’s part of the DIY charm, right? A little crooked seam here, a slightly uneven hem there… it all adds character!

Finally, after hours of work, it was done! It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but it was definitely a lion dress. I slipped it on, and I gotta say, I felt pretty fierce. I should try it next time.
It might not be runway-ready, but I made it myself, and that’s what counts. Plus, it’s super comfy. Perfect for lounging around the house and pretending to be a majestic lioness. Rawr!
