Okay, so, I’ve been digging into this artist named Dodie Rosekrans. I gotta say, her story and her work are pretty darn interesting.

First off, I started with a quick search to get the gist of who she is. Turns out, she’s this super respected interior designer and socialite. I saw some pictures of her work, and man, it’s definitely not my usual style, but I started to appreciate the boldness and the uniqueness of it all.
Then, I decided to dive deeper. I went through some interviews and articles about her design philosophy. She’s all about breaking the rules and creating spaces that are both luxurious and a bit eccentric. That got me thinking. It must be a lot of fun to be that creative in your work.
I spent the next couple of days checking out photos of her projects. Her own home in San Francisco, which she called “the brightest house in the world” is something else. It’s like stepping into another world with all those bright colors and patterns. It’s definitely over the top, but in a way that somehow works, at least in my mind. I found myself staring at these pictures, trying to figure out how she pulled it all together.
After that, I thought, “Why not try to understand her style a bit more?” So, I started looking at the specific elements she uses. Lots of French antiques, bold color choices, and mixing patterns that you wouldn’t normally think would go together. It’s a bit like a beautiful mess, if that makes sense.
I even tried to sketch out a room in her style, just for fun. Let me tell you, it’s harder than it looks! Balancing all those elements is a real skill. I ended up with something that looked more like a child’s drawing, but hey, it was a fun experiment.

- Started with basic research on who Dodie Rosekrans is.
- Read interviews and articles to understand her design approach.
- Looked at photos of her projects, especially her San Francisco home.
- Studied the specific elements of her style, like antiques and color choices.
- Tried (and failed spectacularly) to sketch a room in her style.
All in all, this little exploration into Dodie Rosekrans’ world was a blast. It’s always cool to step outside of your comfort zone and see things from a different perspective. I’m not about to redecorate my place in her style anytime soon, but I definitely have a newfound appreciation for her work and the guts it takes to be that bold.
Maybe I’ll try another one of these deep dives soon. Any suggestions for who I should check out next? Let me know in the comments! I am always looking for some new people and things to get inspired by.
