Alright guys, let’s talk about flares! I finally took the plunge and tried to figure out how to actually wear them without looking like I’m stuck in the 70s (not that the 70s are bad, just not the vibe I’m going for, you know?). So, here’s my journey.

First, I dug out this old pair of flared jeans I’ve had buried in the back of my closet for ages. Seriously, I think I bought them like, five years ago on a whim and then never wore them. They were a little long, so the first step was to figure out the right length.
I tried them on with a bunch of different shoes. That’s key! Heels, sneakers, platforms… I realized that the right shoe can totally make or break the look. I ended up going with some chunky platform sandals because they gave me the height I needed without being too dressy. Plus, they’re comfy! That’s a win-win in my book.
Next, the top. This is where I really started experimenting. I tried a few different tucked-in options, like a fitted tee and a button-down shirt. Tucking it in definitely helped to define my waist and keep the flares from swallowing me whole. But, honestly, it felt a little too… try-hard.
So, I switched gears and grabbed a cropped sweater. I loved how it hit right at my natural waist and didn’t require any tucking or fussing. It felt way more effortless and cool. Added a simple necklace to dress it up just a bit.
Then, I remembered this belt I bought, and it just completed the look!

Here’s what I learned from my little experiment:
- Shoes are crucial. Seriously, don’t underestimate the power of the right shoe with flares.
- Balance is key. If your pants are wide, keep your top more fitted or cropped to avoid looking shapeless.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment. Try different tops, shoes, and accessories until you find a combination that you love.
Finally, I snapped a few pics to document the whole thing, and I actually really liked how the outfit came together. It’s definitely something I’ll wear again. So yeah, that’s how I figured out how to wear flares! Hope this helps some of you who are struggling with the same thing. Let me know what you think!
