Okay, let me walk you through this little project I tackled recently, something I just mentally tagged as “clothes 2008”. It wasn’t anything super fancy, just a bit of practical sorting I’d been meaning to do.

Getting Started
So, it all kicked off when I was clearing out the back of the storage closet. Found this old suitcase, kinda dusty, didn’t even remember exactly what was inside. Turns out, it was packed full of clothes I hadn’t seen in ages, stuff mostly from around, well, 2008 give or take a year.
First step was just dragging that heavy thing out into the middle of the room. Opened it up. Wow. A real blast from the past, you know? Some stuff I instantly recognized, other things made me think, “Did I really wear that?”
The Big Sort
Alright, so I dumped the whole lot onto an old sheet on the floor. Made quite a pile. Then I just started going through it piece by piece. My system was pretty simple, really:
- Keep Pile: Mostly for nostalgic reasons, or if, by some miracle, it still fit and looked okay. Not much ended up here, honestly.
- Donate Pile: Anything still in good shape but that I knew I’d never wear again. This pile got pretty big.
- Maybe Pile: Things I wasn’t sure about. Needed a try-on or a closer look.
- Trash Pile: Stuff that was stained, torn, or just totally worn out.
Spent a good couple of hours just sitting there, picking up each item. Held up this one old band t-shirt, faded and soft. Definitely brought back some memories. Found a pair of jeans I totally forgot existed. Tried them on for a laugh – nope, not happening!
Dealing with the Piles
Once the initial sort was done, I tackled the ‘Maybe’ pile. Tried a few things on. Mostly confirmed they needed to go to the donate pile. It’s funny how your style changes, isn’t it?

Then, I took the ‘Keep’ pile – wasn’t much, like I said, maybe three or four items – and decided they needed a good wash before going back into storage, but maybe a more accessible spot this time. The ‘Donate’ pile got folded neatly and put into bags, ready to drop off later. The ‘Trash’ pile went straight into the bin.
Cleaning Up and Finishing
Gathered up all the donation bags. Put the few ‘Keep’ items in the laundry basket. Folded up the old sheet I’d used. Honestly, just seeing the floor clear again felt good.
It wasn’t complicated, just took a bit of time and willingness to actually do it. Felt satisfying to finally sort through that old suitcase instead of just moving it around whenever I needed something else from the closet.
So yeah, that was my “clothes 2008” adventure. Just a simple task of sorting through old stuff, deciding what stays and what goes. Good to get it done.
