Okay, so, I’ve been thinking about this whole male model height thing for a while now. I’m not exactly a giant, you know? I stand at around 5’9″, which is like, average, right? But in the modeling world, it feels like being a dwarf sometimes. So, I decided to do a little experiment, to see what the real deal is with height and male models.

First off, I started by just looking around online. I checked out a bunch of modeling agency websites and looked at their male models. Man, it was depressing. Most of these guys were like, 6 foot and above. Seriously, it felt like everyone was towering over me, even through the computer screen. I found a few agencies that had some shorter guys, but they were definitely the minority.
Then, I decided to go a little deeper. I started looking at actual runway shows and fashion campaigns. Same story there. Tall, lanky dudes everywhere. It was like the fashion industry had a secret “must be this tall to ride” sign that I didn’t know about. But I noticed that not every job requires super tall guys. I also saw some advertisements and models were average height like me.
Feeling a little discouraged, I thought about just giving up. But then I remembered this one model, Aaron Frew. I’d seen him in a few things before. He’s only 5’7″, but he’s been pretty successful. So I dug into his story, and it was actually pretty inspiring. He talked about how he had to work extra hard to get noticed because of his height, but he didn’t let it stop him. I learned a lot from his story.
So, I decided to try a little experiment of my own. I took some photos, trying to make myself look as tall as possible. You know, playing with angles, wearing clothes that elongate the body, that sort of thing. I even stood on my tippy-toes for a few shots (don’t judge me!).
- I tried different poses.
- I wore different clothes to see what worked best.
- I even got a friend to take some photos of me from a lower angle to make me look taller.
After all that, I looked at the photos. Honestly, I didn’t look like a giant or anything, but I definitely looked taller than I actually am in some of them. It’s all about the illusion, I guess. It wasn’t a huge transformation, but it was enough to make me feel a little more confident.

My Conclusion
So, what did I learn from all this? Well, being tall definitely helps in the modeling world, no doubt about it. But it’s not the only thing that matters. You gotta have the right look, the right attitude, and you gotta be willing to work your butt off, especially if you’re on the shorter side. It’s not easy, but it’s not impossible either. And that’s what I realized. Guys like Aaron Frew showed me that. If you have the determination, even shorter guys like me can make it work. I guess what I’m trying to say is, don’t let your height hold you back, whether you’re trying to be a model or anything else in life.
