Fall Clothes 2014: Find Out What Styles Were Popular.

Okay, so it’s 2014, and I’m feeling that familiar itch for a wardrobe refresh as the leaves start to change. You know, that “I have nothing to wear!” feeling even though my closet is packed. I decided to tackle this head-on and document my whole “fall clothes 2014” process.

Step 1: The Purge

First things first, I hauled everything out of my closet. EVERYTHING. It was a mountain of clothes, shoes, and accessories on my bed. I tried on a bunch of stuff, and anything that didn’t fit, was damaged beyond repair, or just hadn’t been worn in like, a year, went into a separate pile. This was tough, but I powered through.

Step 2: The Inventory

Next, I looked at what was left. I made a mental note of what I had a lot of (too many black sweaters, maybe?) and what was missing. I really needed some versatile basics and maybe a couple of statement pieces to spice things up.

Step 3: Inspiration Hunt

Time to get inspired. Used some of my favourite pictures and photos to build the mood. I scrolled through them, looking for trends and outfits I liked.

I looked for:

  • Cozy knitwear
  • Boots, boots, boots!
  • Maybe some darker colors, like burgundy or forest green
  • Scarves for layering

Step 4: The Shopping (and Not Shopping)

So, armed with my inspiration and my “needs” list, I started checking out some pictures. I didn’t want to break the bank, so I also looked at what I already owned and tried to see if I could create similar looks with those pieces.

I did end up buying a few things:

  • A really comfy oversized cardigan
  • A pair of ankle boots that go with everything
  • A cute plaid scarf

Step 5: Putting It All Together

This is the fun part! I spent an afternoon mixing and matching my old clothes with the new stuff. I tried different combinations, took some (terrible) selfies to see what worked, and figured out some go-to outfits for different occasions. It’s amazing how a few new pieces can breathe new life into your existing wardrobe!

Step 6: Enjoy the Fall!

Finally I could wear clothes that made me feel good. Bring on the pumpkin spice lattes and crisp autumn air!
