My Journey Finding Out Where Burberry Stuff is Made
Okay, so I got this itch the other day. I was looking at my old Burberry scarf, the classic check one, you know? And I started wondering, where do they actually make this stuff? Like, really make it. Is it all still proper British?

My first thought, naturally, was to just search it up online. So I grabbed my phone, typed in “where is Burberry manufactured”. Seemed simple enough. But man, the results were all over the place. Some sites said England, others Italy, some even mentioned China. It wasn’t a straight answer at all, which kinda surprised me for such a big name brand.
Right, I thought, time to do some real-world checking. I actually own a couple of Burberry pieces collected over the years. So, I went digging.
- First, the famous trench coat. Pulled that out, checked the label inside. Boom! Made in England. Okay, that fits the story, the heritage vibe. Castleford, I think I read somewhere later, is the spot for these.
- Next up, that classic check cashmere scarf. Flipped over the label. Huh. Made in Scotland. Right, that makes sense, Scotland’s known for cashmere.
- Then I looked at a newer polo shirt I got. Checked the little tag on the side seam. This one said Made in China.
- And a leather wallet I was given? Label inside said Made in Italy.
So, already, from just my own small collection, it was clear there wasn’t just one answer. England, Scotland, Italy, China… it was a mix.
Digging a Bit More Online and In Stores
This got me more curious. I went back online, but this time I tried searching for specific things, like “where are Burberry bags made” or “Burberry shoes manufacturing”. That started painting a clearer picture.
It seems like the strategy is kinda like this:

- Heritage stuff: The classic trench coats? Still largely made in the UK, specifically Castleford in Yorkshire. They make a big deal out of this, and rightly so. Cashmere scarves often come from Scotland.
- Leather Goods: A lot of the high-end bags, wallets, and shoes seem to be made in Italy. Italy’s got that reputation for amazing leather craftsmanship, so that adds up. I saw Spain and Portugal mentioned for some shoes too.
- Other Clothing/Accessories: This is where it gets broader. Shirts, polos, knitwear, smaller accessories… these could come from various places. Italy pops up again, but so does Portugal, Poland, Romania, and yes, China and other parts of Asia. It likely depends on the specific item, the collection it’s part of, maybe even the price point.
I even popped into a store next time I was near one. Didn’t buy anything, just did some sneaky label-checking. Confirmed what I’d found online. A mix of places depending on the product type. I didn’t bother asking the staff, figured they’d give me the standard marketing line or might not even know the specifics for every item.
So, What’s the Deal?
Basically, Burberry isn’t made in just one country. It’s a global operation now. They keep the iconic stuff, the trench coats, largely in the UK because that’s core to their brand story. High-end leather often goes to Italy for the quality association. But for lots of other products, they manufacture where it makes sense globally, balancing cost, skill, and logistics, just like pretty much every other huge fashion brand does these days.
It wasn’t the simple “Made in England” answer I might have expected initially, but it makes sense. It’s just the reality of how big brands work now. Kinda interesting to piece it together though, starting from just looking at a scarf!
