Discover Vanity Fair in Reading: Events and Exclusives.

Okay, guys, so today I decided to tackle “Vanity Fair” – not the magazine, but the classic novel by William Makepeace Thackeray. I’ve heard it’s a beast, but also brilliant, so I figured, why not? Here’s how my reading journey went down:

First things first, I grabbed my copy. It’s this old, thick paperback with tiny print, so I knew I was in for the long haul. I brewed some strong coffee – gotta stay awake for this one, right? – and settled into my comfy armchair.

Getting Started

I dove right in, and honestly, the first few chapters were a bit of a slog. All these characters with weird names, and the language is pretty old-timey. I found myself re-reading sentences a few times, just to make sure I got what was going on. I did use the dictionary a couple of times.

  • Becky Sharp – Okay, she’s the main girl, and she’s clearly up to no good. Got it.
  • Amelia Sedley – Becky’s friend, seems a bit naive, maybe?
  • All those dudes – Still trying to keep them straight, to be honest!

Making Progress (Slowly!)

After pushing past the introductions part, I started to get into the rhythm of the story. It is all the social climbing and backstabbing that got me hooked. It’s like a soap opera, but, you know, written way better. I spent a good chunk of the afternoon reading, only stopping to refill my coffee and grab a snack.

I will highlight some key moments or funny * way, I could keep track of the plot twists and Becky’s sassy remarks. It made easier to follow along, and it’s fun to look back at them later. For example, the description of all the fancy parties and dresses – wow! It’s a whole different world.

Wrapping Up (For Today)

I didn’t finish the whole book in one day, not even close! I managed to get through about a third of it. I’m definitely intrigued, I’m curious about where this whole thing is going.

I decided to call it quits for the night. My brain was starting to feel a little fried. I marked the page for the next reading.

So, that’s my “Vanity Fair” reading experience so far. It’s a challenge, for sure, but I think it’ll be worth it in the end. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue my journey through this massive book!
