Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole “disco 1980 fashion” thing, and let me tell you, it’s a trip. I wanted to try and recreate some of those iconic looks, you know, for fun, and maybe for a themed party I’m thinking of throwing.

Getting Started – The Research Phase
First, I scoured the internet. I mean, I really went down the rabbit hole. I looked at tons of old photos, watched some classic disco movies, and even flipped through some vintage magazines my grandma had stashed away (score!). It was all about getting a feel for the vibe, the colors, the shapes – the whole shebang.
Gathering the Materials
Next up, I hit some thrift stores. I mean, where else are you gonna find authentic 70s and 80s gear? It was a bit of a treasure hunt, but I managed to find some pretty cool stuff. I also checked out some online vintage shops, but honestly, the thrift store finds were way more exciting (and cheaper!).
The Experimentation
Then the fun part started. I tried stuff. So, I grabbed.
- Shiny fabrics.
- Big, bold patterns.
- Bell-bottoms (obviously!).
- Platform shoes, that I can find.
- Lots of sequins and glitter.
- And a big Afro wig(it is so hard to find!)
I mixed and matched different pieces, trying to channel that disco energy. Some combinations were… questionable, let’s just say. But others? Pure gold! I felt like I was stepping back in time.
Putting it All Together – Creating the Looks
Finally, I started putting together some complete outfits.I took pictures of myself and show my friends, they all laughed! I focused on:

- Bold Colors: Lots of bright, saturated colors like gold, silver, purple, and red.
- Flared Silhouettes: Bell-bottom pants and wide-legged jumpsuits were key.
- Shiny Textures: Satin, sequins, and anything that shimmered under the disco ball.
- Big Accessories: Chunky jewelry, oversized sunglasses, and of course, those platform shoes.
It was a lot of trial and error, but I eventually created a few looks that I felt really captured the essence of 1980 disco fashion. I even practiced some disco moves in the mirror – gotta get the whole package, right?
So, yeah, that’s my disco fashion adventure so far. It’s been a blast, and I’m definitely ready to hit the dance floor (or at least, my living room) in style. I think i can have my party now!
