Alright, so I’ve been totally into this whole dark academia vibe lately. You know, that moody, vintage, bookish aesthetic? I decided it was time to give my bedroom a complete overhaul and go full dark academia.

First things first, I cleared out all the junk. And I mean everything. Old posters, random knick-knacks, anything that didn’t fit the vibe had to go. It was a bit of a pain, but totally worth it to have a clean slate.
Next up, the walls. I picked out this deep, moody color. It is a mix between charcoal gray and burgundy. I know, dark walls can be a bit risky, but I figured, go big or go home, right? Luckily, it turned out amazing. It instantly gave the room that cozy, scholarly feel I was going for.
- Got a vintage-looking writing desk off of Facebook Marketplace.
- Found an old, ornate bookshelf at a flea market.
- Bought tons of old books to fill the shelves, even if I don’t actually read all of them just yet.

Then came the fun part – decorating! I found some old-looking picture frames and put in some prints I found online. Think old botanical illustrations, anatomical drawings, and some classic literature quotes. I also added some candles and a few antique-looking lamps for that soft, warm glow.
For the bedding, I went with some dark, rich-colored sheets and a velvet comforter. It’s super comfy and definitely adds to the overall moody vibe. I also threw in some textured throw pillows to make it extra cozy.
Honestly, the whole process took a while, and there were definitely a few moments where I questioned my choices. I mean, painting your walls that dark is kind of a commitment! But in the end, I’m so happy with how it turned out. My bedroom really feels like a dark academia haven now. It’s the perfect place to curl up with a good book and pretend I’m in some old, mysterious library.

If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I’d say go for it! Just be prepared to spend some time hunting for the right pieces and don’t be afraid to go a little darker than you normally would. Trust me, it’s worth it!
