Okay, so I wanted to make one of those cool crossbody pouch bags. I’ve seen people using them everywhere, and they just look so handy! Plus, I’m tired of lugging around a big purse all the time.

First Try
I started by picking out some fabric. I went with a sturdy canvas because I wanted it to last. I didn’t really have a pattern, so I just kind of winged it. I cut out two rectangles for the front and back, and a long strip for the sides. Then, I grabbed some fabric I had lying around for the strap.
- Step 1: Cut the fabric. Two big pieces for the front and back, one long piece for the sides, and an even longer piece for the strap. Easy peasy.
Sewing it together was…an adventure. I’m not the best with a sewing machine, let me tell you. I think I started by sewing the sides to the front piece, then I attached the back. The zipper was a whole other story. I tried to put it in between the front and back pieces, but it ended up all wonky.
Second Attempt
After messing up the first one, I decided to do some more research. I looked up some tutorials and found some useful tips. This time, I decided to make the bag a bit smaller. You know, something just big enough for my phone, wallet, and keys.
- Step 2: Sew the sides to the front piece. Then sew the back piece on. Take it slow, don’t rush it like I did.
- Step 3: The zipper. This is where things got messy the first time. I watched a couple of videos on how to do this properly. It’s still tricky, but it’s doable.
I also decided to add a little pocket on the inside. I mean, who doesn’t love pockets, right? I just cut out a small rectangle and sewed it to the inside before putting the whole bag together. I messed up a few times, but I got it eventually.
Almost There
The strap was the last thing. I measured it out so it would sit comfortably across my body. No one wants a strap that’s too short or too long, am I right? I sewed the ends of the strap to the sides of the bag, making sure to reinforce the stitches so it wouldn’t break.

- Step 4: Make the strap. I just used a long piece of fabric, folded it over, and sewed it up. Make sure it’s long enough to go across your body!
- Step 5: Attach the strap to the bag. Double-check that it’s secure!
And that’s it! My very own crossbody pouch bag. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It holds all my essentials, and it’s so much easier to carry around than a big purse. Plus, my hands are free to do other stuff, like hold my coffee! I think I’ll try some other designs next time.
